News to Know about your students week!

Principal's Update
Hello Fairburn Parents and Community,
Greetings, Fairburn Families,
Our LSLC will meet Monday at 7:30 in the Library bring your coffee.
One more week in October, this school year keeps moving along. We invite Parents to the 2026 Halloween Parade at 8:15 on Friday morning. Parents, please follow the parade costume guidelines. At the end of the parade, please have students change out of their costumes so they can have a productive day of work. LAUSD policy allows classrooms to have two parties per year. Bootober is our Halloween or Fall school-wide party, so we hope you'll join everyone on October 24.
Have a great Week
Ms Patterson Jones
Morning Drop Off Safety Concerns
In order to ensure student safety, parents are not allowed on campus at any time without a visitor's passed issued at the Main Office. This year we will be limiting all visitors on campus to those who have essential functions.
All students should be dropped off and picked up according to the Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pick Up procedures.
Safety Reminders
- Please...
- Do not block the driveways of private residences, double park, or make U-turns on any street around school. These actions can possibly jeopardize the safety of our students.
- Do not drop off our children in the parking lot.
- Do not block the driveway into the parking lot.
Pedestrian Safety Rules
In order to ensure the safety of our students when they walk to school, please follow the pedestrian safety rules:
- Use the crosswalks.
- Cross only at corners so drivers can see you.
- Look left, right, left to see cars before crossing the street.
- Never cross the street from between parked cars. Driver's can't see you.
- Jaywalking anywhere, especially near schools during drop-off and pick up times, puts both pedestrians and drivers at risk
Before School 7:40 - 8:00 a.m.
We request that students arrive no earlier than 7:40 a.m. We do not have supervision for children prior to 7:40 a.m. Please remember instruction begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. To avoid your child missing valuable instructional time, it is imperative that he/she arrives no later than the 7:55 a.m. bell. Both the TK, Rochester and Ohio gates will be open until 8:00 a.m. TK parents due to traffic and safety concerns we are asking that you drop your student at the Gate with the Instructional Aide so that they can be directed to the TK yard for morning play. The TK team will supervise the students.
Walking to School: For those who walk to school, it is recommended that you escort your younger children to school every day rather than letting them walk by themselves. Students are not to enter the school through the office. Both the TK, Rochester and Ohio gates are open daily at 7:40 a.m. for all students to enter.
Valet Program: In an effort to make our morning drop-off as efficient and safe as possible, Fairburn Elementary School uses the Valet Program to bring students safely into the school. This program provides reduced traffic problems, and a safer environment for students as they are dropped off. Please keep a few things in mind:
- As you arrive, simply line up your car along the curb as you approach the entrance.
- Personnel will come up to the first cars in the "Cone Zone" then open the car doors to allow the students to exit the car with their backpack and other necessary items.
- Personnel will close the car doors to allow parents to drive away.
- Wait until you reach the Cone Zone to drop off your children. Parents who allow their children to exit the car before the Cone Zone, and then drive away will add to the traffic. This will cause a more dangerous situation for all cars and students.
Dismissal After School
Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students are dismissed from the TK yard. Teachers ask that parents line up in an orderly fashion and wait until the student is released by the teacher. Teachers want to make sure to recognize the individual the student is being released to.
All other students will be dismissed from the Rochester and Ohio Avenue gates. We will have both a valet and walk-up pick-up option. Please be patient as we want to ensure that students are being release in an orderly organized manner.
**If you are going to be late picking up your TK - 1st grade student, please call the office. All late pick-ups will be from the Lower Ohio gate unless other arrangements are made.
**Students in Grades 2-5 will be sent to Youth Services after 2:40 p.m. Student may then be picked up at the Ohio Avenue Gate. When you arrive, let us know who you are here to pick up and we will radio the student to come to the gate.

Subject: Important Health Reminder: District Fever and Illness Policy
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we work together to keep our school community safe and healthy, please review our district’s official policy regarding student illness and fevers.
District Fever Definition
- The Threshold: A fever is defined as a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher using an oral, temporal, or ear thermometer.
- What it Means: A fever is an elevation of normal body temperature. It indicates the body's natural response to something, but it is not a disease or a severe problem by itself.
- Other Causes: Children's temperatures can rise for many reasons, most of which do not mean they have a serious illness.
School Exclusion Criteria
- When to Stay Home: A student must stay home if a fever is accompanied by behavior changes or any other signs of illness.
- Signs of Illness: This includes any symptom showing the child's condition is different from how they act when they are healthy.
- Contagious Illnesses: Highly contagious infections like strep throat spread rapidly in classrooms and require immediate exclusion.
Readmission Guidelines
Students may return to school when school personnel determine they have recovered and meet the following criteria:
- All exclusion criteria are completely resolved.
- The child is fully able to participate in daily school activities.
- The student has been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
Reinforcing Healthy Habits at Home
- Hand Hygiene: Practice frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Respiratory Etiquette: Remind children to cough and sneeze into their elbows.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our classrooms healthy and ready for learning.
Warmly,
Respectfully,
Marie Eddins

From the Nurse’s Desk 🩺✨
Dear Parents,
To maintain a healthy and safe environment for everyone, please follow these required universal precautions immediately when a student loses a tooth in your classroom:
- Mandatory Handwashing: Before leaving the classroom, the student must wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water. This step is critical to remove any blood or saliva and prevent the spread of potential viruses and bacteria onto high-touch surfaces like doorknobs and office counters.
Your strict adherence to these hand hygiene practices and safety protocols is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school safe!
Sincerely,
Nurse Marie
