Good Afternoon, CUSD,

Happy Homecoming! We are sending the newsletter out a little early today - as we head out to Orange Avenue for the Homecoming Parade. We hope to see many of you along the parade route (from Adella to 7th St) starting at 4pm and/or at the football game which kicks off at 7pm. Huge shout out to CHS ASB for planning a spirit-filled week on the CHS campus. Go Islanders!

CUSD engages in a wide variety of physical and mental wellness activities throughout the year. Many activities are planned around national observances such as Bullying Prevention (October), but others are in response to current events. Additionally, our website provides comprehensive and targeted helpful information and guides for parents to access as needs arise. Please refer to the Student Services page to access these important resources.

Our amazing partners at the Coronado Schools Foundation are busy planning for the annual GALA at the DEL on November 15th. So many of our families are involved in this work and we are incredibly grateful for each hour, each dollar, and every ounce of positive energy that CSF brings to CUSD. Our schools would look very different without CSF! It’s not too late to buy a ticket to the best party of the year…see details and buy tickets. If you can’t make it to the gala you can always support by donating items for the online auction (which will go live on November 1). They will gratefully accept donations such as gift cards, bottles of wine, experiences, hotel/Airbnb stays, classes, services, anything! Additionally, every year CSF comes up with something new and exciting and one of the new ideas for this year is a Mentor Coffee, where professionals donate an hour of their time to have coffee with a student to share insights & advice on their profession. These Mentor Coffees will be up for grabs on the Online Auction so if you or someone you know would be a good mentor fit, or you have an item to donate, please see the flyer below and reach out to CSF.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Karl J. Mueller

Superintendent

As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!

  • Rachel Lozano has been helping me consistently for the last year with anything and everything! She has brought me fans, changed out fans, moved items in, moved items out, searched for lost items, listened when I was having a hard day, etc. I appreciate her so much and all that she has done for me and my department. Thank you, Rachel, for ALWAYS being willing to help and listen.
  • Ms. Ann Minnich is such an awesome resource for our military kids. My son has really enjoyed his interactions with her and even specifically asked to meet with her this year to help him with strategies for having big feelings. I’m so grateful we have access to someone like her!
  • Aurelia Dunn is one of our amazing TK assistants! Aurelia often takes her time to connect with students on a personal level and find out how she can help spark their interests. She is one of the major pieces in our classroom, offering support and ideas that make our class successful. I am so appreciative for Mrs. Dunn each day!
  • Mrs. Wendy Lewis has gone above and beyond to help our family this year. She has made CHS a safe and caring place for students. The way she relates to students and parents is unmeasured. CHS is so lucky to have such an amazing Vice Principal.
  • The Nunn family is beyond amazing! They donated so many sweet items for our TK apple week. The students were able to complete art projects, fine motor activities and hear many apple stories for a successful learning experience. Thank you Nunn family for all you do for our TK students in 707.
  • Josh Chao: He is a great teacher that makes the classroom fun and engaging for teens. My teenager really enjoys his English class and the vibe of his class. I love his use of pity points, it’s hilarious, original, and is a great way to encourage students while fostering creativity.

Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
