Friday Updates

Dear SHS Families,

Having the building come alive with the faces and sounds of students is one of the most rewarding parts of the school year. Watching the teachers begin to establish routines and interacting with the students in passing or in the lunchroom has been a real treat, making these first few days pass in a flash.

Next week, we will begin progress monitoring in all classes to establish a baseline for where our students are academically at the start of the year. These assessments consist of the STARS testing and CBMs. Help your students be ready to give their best efforts by ensuring that they have good sleep and eat a nutritious breakfast.

There were a few changes made to the September calendar that I want to note. Donuts with Dads was rescheduled from Thursday, Sept. 18, to Thursday, Sept. 11, and the PTO meeting originally scheduled for Sept. 2 was moved to this upcoming Tuesday, Aug. 26th, at 6:00 pm, just before Back-to-School Night.

Back-to-School Night will begin on Tuesday evening at 6:30. There is important information shared this evening about the nuts and bolts of the school year, and how your students' teacher operates their classroom and communicates with all of you, the parents. The night will begin with some introductions, updates, and information from me in the Parish Hall, followed by two 15-minute sessions led by the classroom teachers in their individual classrooms, where they will go over expectations and procedures for their respective classes. For parents with children in multiple grade levels, I encourage you to go to your youngest student’s classroom first and end with your oldest student’s classroom. If you are unable to attend a session with your student’s teacher, please let them know so you don’t miss out on any important information or details about the class. Below is a general timeline for Tuesday’s BTSN.

• 6:00 – 6:30: PTO meeting

• 6:30 – 6:40: All school information from Mr. Greer in the Parish Center

• 6:45 – 7:00: Session 1 in teachers’ classrooms

• 7:05 – 7:20: Session 2 in teachers’ classrooms
