English Village Family Edition
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPALS:
Dear EV Families,
Greetings! We hope that you are all doing well. As you may know, Red Ribbon Week is approaching.
Red Ribbon Week is a meaningful opportunity to talk with children about making healthy, safe choices. While conversations about substance prevention may feel far away for our youngest learners, the foundations for lifelong well-being begin early—with caring adults, positive routines, and the confidence to ask for help.
Small Habits Build a Strong Foundation
For children in Kindergarten through Second Grade, healthy habits can be simple: getting enough rest, eating nourishing foods, moving their bodies, practicing personal safety, and talking about their feelings. These everyday choices help children learn to care for themselves and recognize that their well-being matters.
When children experience encouragement and predictable routines, they begin to feel capable and secure. That growing self-esteem supports them in trying new things, persisting through challenges, making thoughtful choices, and speaking up when they need help.
Healthy Children Are Ready to Learn
Feeling safe, rested, and supported can help students focus, participate, and build positive relationships at school. Healthy habits don’t guarantee that every school day will be easy, but they give children a stronger foundation for learning and growth. Families and schools can work together to model these habits and celebrate children’s efforts.
Try These Ideas at Home
Choose one healthy routine to practice together, such as a bedtime routine or a daily walk.
Praise effort and thoughtful choices: “You took good care of yourself.”
Talk about trusted adults your child can go to for help.
Practice simple ways to say “no,” leave an uncomfortable situation, and ask an adult for support.
Read a story or share a conversation about caring for our bodies and making safe choices.
We look forward to celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week with our students! Please see our Red Ribbon Week flyer for more information on the themes for each school day.
As always, thank you very much for your on-going support and collaboration. Take care and have a great week!
With appreciation,
Jason and Rosa
School Safety Takes All of Us
Dear Families,
Keeping students and staff safe is a responsibility we take seriously every day. Greece Central has established security procedures, emergency plans and student support resources to help maintain safe, supportive learning environments. Families, students and staff also play an important role in making safety a shared priority.
Keeping Our Buildings Secure
Greece Central has established security procedures and systems designed to help protect students and staff throughout the school day. Exterior doors at all school campuses remain locked, and visitors must enter through one designated entrance and follow established security procedures. Our secondary schools also use security screening systems during student arrival and at large-scale events to help prevent unauthorized items from entering our buildings.
The district employs a security team that includes retired law enforcement officers licensed to carry firearms. We also maintain a close working relationship with the Greece Police Department. Officers have keys to access district schools and classrooms to support a timely response when needed.
Additional safeguards include classroom locksets designed to prevent unauthorized entry from outside the room and lockdown alarm systems that support our emergency response procedures.
Everyone has a role in maintaining these safeguards. Following visitor procedures and keeping doors secure are simple but important ways we can all contribute to school safety.
Supporting Student Well-Being
School safety includes more than physical security. It also means helping students build positive relationships, navigate challenges and feel comfortable asking for help.
We continue to expand in-school mental health resources, including counselors, social workers and other mental health professionals who work with students across the district. These staff members help students build connections, work through conflicts and address concerns early.
Understanding Emergency Procedures
Knowing the terminology used during a school emergency can help families better understand communications from the district and what different responses mean. Please take a few minutes to review our School Emergency Planning: Family Edition guide. It explains emergency terms you may hear from your school, what different responses look like and what families should know.
Speaking Up About Concerns
Students, families and staff all play an important role in identifying and reporting concerns that could affect school safety. For more than 20 years, Greece Central has offered the Safe School Helpline as a confidential way to share information.
To report a concern, call 1-800-418-6423, ext. 359, or submit a report online.
Working Together for School Safety
A safe school environment depends on the steps we take together, from following building security procedures to making sure students know they can turn to a trusted adult when something concerns them.
We know families place tremendous trust in us, and we take that responsibility seriously. Thank you for partnering with us to support the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Greece Central School District
Please note that our school may practice safety drills (i.e-Fire Drills, Lockdown Drills, etc.) this upcoming week. This is done to ensure student safety in the case of an actual event and are required by law.
SIP (School Improvement Plan) Information:
We are writing with an update on our SIT (School Improvement Team). Our District utilizes the 4DX framework from Franklin Covey (company that brings us Leader in Me) to help us organize and implement our School Improvement Plan (SIP). 4DX stands for the 4 Dimensions of Execution.
This year we are focusing on Dimensions 3 and 4. These two Dimensions support us in holding ourselves accountable in tracking our progress towards achieving our SIP goals. Please consider researching 4DX to learn more....
Dimension 3: Keep a Compelling Scoreboard. Make progress visible with a simple chart that shows whether you're winning. People play differently when they can see the score.
Dimension 4: Create a Cadence of Accountability. Hold a short weekly meeting, usually 20–30 minutes. Each person reports on last week's commitments, reviews the scoreboard, and commits to one or two specific actions for the coming week.
