Principal Update
Dear Y.E.S. Families,
The fall weather has officially arrived! Thank you for ensuring your student has the appropriate weather gear on each day. As a reminder, Y.E.S students will go outside unless it is below 10 degrees outside.
As a reminder, we have moved to all classroom to family communication happening through the SeeSaw app. We have found that several families do not have notifications turned on in SeeSaw. Teachers are not only providing updates about classroom activities, but are also sending important messages via SeeSaw. If you are unsure about your SeeSaw account, please reach out to us. We will help get you connected. Thank you for partnering with Y.E.S and utilizing the SeeSaw app!
We are looking forward to Career and College day on November 24th. This is always an exciting event for our students as they explore a wide variety of future paths. Be sure to talk to your child about what they learned during Career Day and encourage them to dream big! It’s a great opportunity to connect school success and hard work today with the goals they hope to achieve in the future.
Project Update:
Progress continues to be made on the addition at Y.E.S. In October, additional footings for third, fourth, and fifth grade are complete, and they will now move to working on finishing the walls in that area. The FEMA gym precast walls are being set and will be finished soon. Structural steel installation has started on the preschool area of the addition.

Character Strong
In November, we will continue our PurposeFull People activities with GRATITUDE. We are looking forward to focusing on Gratitude this month! One way to think about Gratitude is “choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives.” Practicing Gratitude can increase our well-being and our happiness. Gratitude is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Well. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress management.
Review Gratitude as a family! Remember that Gratitude is choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives. Find a place in your home to display a glass jar. Cut up small slips of paper and place them next to the jar. Use the jar to collect special people, places, events, and memories that your family is thankful for. Find a time each week to add slips of Gratitude to the jar and assist students in writing or drawing gratitude as needed. Having a gloomy day or a challenging time as a family? Pull out the slips of Gratitude and read them aloud together as a reminder of your Grateful moments.
Career Day November 24th!
Today is the perfect day to start setting goals! It is important for every student to set goals and consider further education or training after high school. This is the underlying philosophy behind "College & Career Day" at York Elementary School. The staff members of Y.E.S. will focus on sharing their excitement for the future, higher education, and making college and post-high school training more familiar and accessible to students. By thinking about education and training beyond elementary school, students can better understand how what they learn in the classroom can be applied in the real world.
Setting goals and dreaming big can be further encouraged by Career Day, which gives students an opportunity to explore various career paths and learn how their education can lead to career success. During this event, community members and leaders share insights about their career and details about the necessary education and training required for career success.

Weather is Changing!
Reminder, the school doors will not open until 7:30 a.m.
As the weather changes, please make sure to send students with heavier coats, hats, and gloves. We will continue to walk outside in the morning and have recess outside if the temperature is above 10 degrees.
