CCA's May Character Trait: Self-Control

The May character trait of the month is self-control. I asked three students what self-control means to them, and here are their responses. Caroline from 1st grade said, “Self-control means choosing what’s best, even though you don’t want to.” Paytyn from 7th grade said, “Self-control means being able to control your words and what you do around other people.” Arrow from 3rd grade said, “It means to have control over your emotions and be faithful.” Proverbs 25:28 compares a person lacking self-control to a city with broken walls, vulnerable to attack. --Jacob

Devotion Corner

Parents, Grandparents, and Staff, we thought you might like this devotion about self-control from “Today Daily Devotion: Self-control,” which is based off of Bible verse Titus 2:11-12, “The grace of God… teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives.” https://todaydevotional.com/devotions/self-control-2 --Jacob

Chapel on May 16 Chapel on May 16

On Friday, chapel was opened by the 5th grade class with pledges to the American flag, Christian flag and Bible. Audrey led students in the singing of "God Bless America." Maia said a prayer over us. Mrs. Ritchie then announced our chapel speaker, Tony Musurka, from Life Change Camp.

Tony talked a little about Life Change camp; that it's for 3rd-8th grade students and they are looking to expand camp dates. More information about Life Change camp can be found at https://campsi.com/camp/lifechange-camp.

Tony gave us a challenge from God’s Word and talked about the opportunities for Christians during summer break. He read from Exodus chapters 3 & 4. Moses was born a slave. The Pharaoh wanted to have all baby boys killed at that time. Moses was put in a basket in the Nile river. God saved him from that river and basically made him an Egyptian prince. He did break the law and was wanted by the police before becoming a shepherd who had a family.

Moses, while taking care of the sheep, saw a bush burst into flames. What started this fire? He notices the bush was not burning up, and the voice of God began talking to him out of it. God wanted Moses to go to Egypt and free the Israelites. God told Moses if he would go, He would be with him. Moses didn’t know what to say. Matthew 10:19-20 tells us it is the Spirit of God that speaks through you. His Word does not return void. Moses said, what if they don’t believe me? God will take care of your worries. Exodus 4:2 tells us Moses threw his staff on the ground and it turned into a snake. Moses finally went to Egypt and God proved He was God.

So the challenge from God's Word is: Ask God to use you this summer to glorify Him. Be willing to use what God has given you. Shine for Jesus through your works.
