A NOTE FROM DR. COFFMAN A NOTE FROM DR. COFFMAN

Can you believe it? We have been in school for 100 days!!! We are proud of all the hard work and successes our students have been achieving!

Our students are working hard and growing academically. The photos included are just a few pictures of engaging class activities. We are working on perimeter, area, and volume in math, and our teachers are planning hands-on, real-life learning experiences for the students. In reading, we are exposing the children to great literature and working on inferencing and making connections. The more the students read at home and school, the better readers they will become! We are reinforcing reading with our Read Across America event next week. Please check your child's folders for information explaining all the fun activities we have planned to celebrate books and supporting students in reading wonderful literature! We will be hosting a used book sale to help fill your home libraries on Friday. Each book will be $1! We have many reading activities planned for all! The students will compete in a Reading Marathon where we will be tracking those that read 13 books(half marathon), and those that read 26 books(full marathon)! Please reinforce reading at home and encourage your children to talk to everyone about their favorite books!

¿Puedes creerlo? ¡Llevamos 100 días en la escuela!

4th GRADE

In ELAR we had a lot of fun diving deeper into poetry the past few weeks. We are shifting focus to persuasive and argumentative texts the next upcoming weeks! In Social Studies we're continuing our discussion over the beginnings of Texas.

Reminders...

  • Next week we are celebrating Read Across America! Be on a lookout for a note going home soon 🙂
  • We have BIG AR Goals to meet by March 4th. Please push your students to spend time reading at home, every single night.
  • Please reach out if your child will be absent. Our attendance has dropped tremendously, and we need everyone here daily receiving quality instruction. It is almost impossible to make up missed lessons.
  • No spelling test this week.
  • Spring Break is the week of March 14-18.

Let me know if you need anything. Thank you for all you do!

Jenna Wesley

4th Grade Math--We are working hard on unit fraction and angle measures. We have learned about adding and subtracting angle measurements and how we can find missing measurements when working with complementary and supplementary angles. The students are seeing how important knowing their division facts are as we figure out angle measure. We are also seeing lots of fractions as well. PLEASE have your child review their division facts and help them with long division a few minutes a day.

4th Grade Science--Wow! The 4th graders are able to name and describe the processes involved in the water cycle. They have filled in diagrams and have drawn pictures to represent the water cycle. We will be moving on to the Sun, Moon, Earth relationships soon.

5th Grade Science--I have gotten so many great questions during our unit on the Solar System. We have compared and contrasted physical properties of the Sun, Earth, and moon. We will continue talking out the solar system a little bit longer before moving on to our next unit on organisms and ecosystems.

Thank you for sharing your children,

Mrs. Brown 🙂

Brown 🙂

5th Grade

Math

-We are working through ordered pairs and a plane. Trying to graph those points using everyday situations.

-Afterwards, we will try to wrap up our 5th grade TEKs with data analysis. We will learn how to read and create all sorts of graphs, so we can begin our STAAR review.

-We need all students in class every day. Please.

Thank you for all your support.

Mrs. Gamez

Sra. Gámez

In ELAR, we are working through our poetry unit. We have been focusing on how to find the author/speaker's tone and the mood within poetry. We have been reading some fun poetry from Disney and even one written by Kobe Bryant. The students have been working hard and are learning the process of analyzing a poem. I'm very proud of how hard they are working and their use of their creative minds during this unit.

In Social Studies, we are finishing up the Civil War this week and will be learning about Reconstruction in the coming weeks. They have been working hard on learning about American History.

Some reminders:

  • Please have your child read every night at least 20 minutes per night. We have some huge AR goals to reach, and I know many of them are working hard in school to reach them. We need your help to ensure they can reach their goals.
  • New spelling words will be coming home today. I will have those in your child's Bronco folders as well as their graded papers.
  • The end of the 3rd quarter is approaching soon so please be sure your child is here every day!

As always, don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns come up for me!

Thank you!

Mrs. Rasco

¡Gracias!
