RULES OF THE ROAD AT WESTWOOD
At Westwood, we use PBIS—Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports—to create a safe, supportive, and consistent learning environment for all students. Through PBIS, we teach and reinforce positive behaviors using our "Rules of the Road". These guiding principles help students understand expectations in all areas of the school and encourage positive choices both in and out of the classroom. Please see this attachment for more information.
WELCOME MRS. LEMASTER
Dear Westwood Families,
I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal at Westwood Elementary! I come to you from Monterey Ridge Elementary, where I also served as Assistant Principal, and before that, I was a Teacher on Special Assignment and an elementary teacher right here in the Poway Unified School District. As a proud Rancho Bernardo High and San Diego State University graduate, I feel deeply connected to this community. My husband and I live nearby with our two wonderful kids—our 7-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son—and we love spending time with our extended family in San Diego. We're big Padres fans and enjoy everything this beautiful city has to offer. I am truly excited to join the Westwood community and look forward to working together to support our students and school.
Warmly,
Lauren LeMaster

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
Based on feedback from families and staff, the district is working on improvements to make the volunteer process more efficient and user-friendly.
While our new system is being finalized, we are still welcoming volunteers. For now, anyone interested in helping on campus can do so as a visitor until our updated process launches, tentatively scheduled for mid-September.
We encourage you to take this time to complete your TB assessment so you’ll be ready when the updated system is in place. We will share more details as we get closer to launch. You can learn more about this process by visiting the District website.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Our volunteers truly make a difference in the lives of our students.
APPLICATION FOR FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE MEALS
Under California’s Universal Meals Program, all PUSD students continue to receive school breakfast and lunch meals at no cost. The Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals, however, is still very important for meal reimbursement purposes and for LCFF funding. Because income eligibility guidelines change annually, families must reapply every year. Please encourage households to apply online at MySchoolApps.com, or to complete a paper application. Students that meet income criteria for free or reduced-price meal eligibility may qualify for additional benefits, such as discounts on after-school care, AP testing fees, transportation, home internet, and some utilities. Families with questions about the meal application should call PUSD Food and Nutrition at 858-668-2570.
