Principal's Note
Greetings PHMS Families,
One thing we really believe in at PHMS is raising the voice of our students. When students know they are heard, they feel valued - and that makes a difference in every part of school life. Our students have many opportunities to share their ideas, concerns, and opinions, whether it’s through Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, 8th Grade Senate, or service work with our Pawsitive Lights club. Beyond those formal outlets, I also meet regularly with individual students and student groups to talk about issues that matter most to them.
I often think of our school like a business. Our students are our “clients.” If we don’t listen to their feedback, their ideas, and their experiences, why would they believe in the PHMS product? Giving students a voice isn’t just important - it’s essential to building a strong, connected school community.
Speaking of sharing their voice, our students will have the chance to take the Maryland School Survey when we return from Spring Break. This is a crucial survey that allows students to "rate our school" - and it has huge implications on our school star rating.
After they take the survey, it is MCAP (ELA, then Math) testing time! These are the two most important assessments that the students will take all year. We have great incentives planned to help motivate students to stay focused, use their time and resources, and come prepared. Student MCAP scores are the single biggest factor for the Maryland Report Card, so we definitely want our kids to give it their all!
I hope you and all our PHMS families have a wonderful Spring Break.

No Parking Signs - Afternoon Pickup
Two "NO PARKING" signs have been placed out in front of the school. No one should be parking in the red area during afternoon club/team pickup - see photo below. Please help to ensure a safe and smooth process by avoiding all parking/standing in the red area shown below. We have plenty of open parking spaces in the lot for parents to wait for their child.

Cell Phone Violations and Device Care
We are seeing an uptick in the number of cell phone violations for students. Between 8:05 and 3:05, students are not allowed to use their personal cell phone at any time. If students have to bring them to school, they are expected to keep them in their lockers. The school is not responsible for any damage or loss.
Also, be reminded that students are responsible for their chromebook devices. Families will be charged for any damage including cracked screens and missing keys. Use MySchoolBucks to pay off any fines incurred.
