This week, we've been celebrating Read Across America Week, a special time to highlight the joy and importance of reading! Developing a love of reading opens doors to imagination, learning, and lifelong success. Whether it's a favorite bedtime story, a fun classroom read-aloud, or independent reading time, every page turned helps build literacy skills and curiosity. We've also kicked off our Community Read book, Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast by Josh Funk. We hope you've been able to enjoy this book at home as well!

Skip the meal planning and cooking tonight and head to The James for an EES restaurant night! Mention Essex Elementary School or Friends of EES in order for 10% of your food bill to be donated to support EES, which in turn supports our students!

Supporting your child’s development of math skills at home can feel overwhelming. Here are a few easy and fun ways to encourage math thinking at home:

  • Have your child help measure ingredients for a recipe.

  • Give your child change to count out for small purchases. Older children can figure out how much change they will receive.

  • Have your child compare prices at the store. Ask younger children, ‘which shirt costs more?’ Ask older children, ‘how much more?’

  • Ask your child to figure out real world problems: ‘we have one can of tuna and we need 5. How many cans do we need to buy?’ For older children ask: ‘It takes 3 ½ hours to drive to grandma’s house. We’ve been driving for 1 ½ hours. How much longer until we get there?’

Most importantly, have fun, be curious and enjoy the math journey!

Eastern Essex Regional Public Health Coalition

The Eastern Essex Regional Public Health Coalition (EERPH) was formed by an agreement between Hamilton, Wenham, Essex, and Rockport, and exists to improve the ability of local health departments to meet state legislated requirements for public health services. EERPHC staff, consisting of a regional social worker and Regional Public Health Nurse, assess and help provide needed public health nursing, mental health education and support, and social services in the community. Residents are welcome to reach out directly to EERPHC for support.
