Welcome to Emma K. Doub!

🍏 We are so glad you are here! 🍎
We’re thrilled to kick off another fantastic year at Emma K. Doub! We can’t wait to reconnect with familiar faces and welcome new members to our school community. This is such an exciting time for everyone involved.
We understand that starting a new school year can bring about some worries, but please know that you’re joining a supportive and caring school family. Together, we’re committed to creating a learning environment where every child can thrive. By working hand-in-hand, we'll ensure that all our students have the tools and support they need to succeed.
Respectfully,

Class Lists
Class Rosters will be posted on the front doors of our school. Please know that a lot of thought goes into the creation of class lists. We utilize our students' strengths and needs to guide our decisions. Additionally, we look at the adult support we have within our building to ensure that all of our students have the necessary support in place to be successful. The lists are not complete as we continue to enroll daily.
Lists will be posted on Aug. 14th, and locating the name of your child's teacher will also be accessible on ParentVue that same day. If you do not yet have access to ParentVue, we will have staff available to help assist with that during the Back to School Event on the 21st.
School Supplies
Emma K. Doub is a Title I School. Due to this additional funding, we were able to provide most of the school supplies needed. Teachers in each grade created a "Wish List" in the event you want to purchase additional materials. Those lists are linked below.
Attendance/Punctuality
Our school is proud to have a strong 94% attendance rate, but we know there’s still room to grow. Last year, 22% of our students were considered chronically absent—meaning they missed 18 or more days of school. That’s nearly an entire month of valuable learning time. While we understand that illnesses and other circumstances can affect attendance, we’ve made it a school-wide goal to improve this number—and we need your partnership to make it happen.
In addition, we saw a concern with tardiness. Just like absences, arriving late can impact a student’s learning and set a challenging tone for the rest of the day. By working together, we can help every student start their day on time and ready to learn.
Arrival
Our hope (fingers crossed) is that all students are in class by 8:10 am on the first day of school. Although we know this can be an emotional day for both students and families, we ask that you not enter the school building. This is a safety protocol for all schools in Washington County. If your child is struggling to disconnect, you may walk him/her to the front door where a staff member will walk your child to class. Please know we will love and care for your children as if they were our own, so we understand the feelings that occur as you watch your child grow.
Walkers
If your child is a walker, arrival time is between 7:50 am and 8:10 am. For safety reasons, please do not arrive prior to 7:50 am.
At dismissal (2:40 pm), when the bell rings, walkers will be called to the upstairs door closest to the large windows by our Art Room. Staff will walk students to the crosswalk where you can meet up with your child. It is helpful if you wait for your child across the street.
Car Riders
We have a lot of car riders at EKD, so please be patient with us the first few weeks of school as we navigate this process as smoothly as we can. Ms. Rowland and Mrs. Barnhart will be outside along with support from Ms. Cole and others. They are incredible at this process, but it still takes time to learn all the "new" cars, etc.
Please have your car rider number clearly displayed on your front dash or your driver-side window.
You will receive your dismissal numbers during our Welcome Back Event, or during the first week of school. If you were a car rider last year, your number will remain the same, and you will receive four new dash cards.
At dismissal time, the first 20 car riders will go directly out the back door. Our 5th Grade students are also often permitted to wait outside to help expedite the process. This is dependent on expected behaviors and weather.
All other remaining car riders, make their way to the cafeteria closer to the back door and await his/her name to be called over the walkie as his/her car gets closer to the dismissal door.
We appreciate you driving safely through our car rider line. Please do not pass other vehicles. In the front of the school, you may carefully pass a loading bus on the left. Please be aware at all times. If, for some reason, we need to double check permissions, numbers, etc., we will ask that you pull into the center of the blacktop to allow the line to continue to flow while we verify information.
***In the event you have an unexpected emergency and someone different will be picking up your child, please share one of the car rider number sheets with that individual. If this is not possible, please make sure the person picking up your child is on your child's emergency contact list. If someone picking up your child is not on your emergency contact list and/or does not have a car rider number, we will not release your child until we have direct contact with you. This is for the safety of your child.
Bus Riders
We will verify all bus riders on Monday and throughout the week. Please review the information below to find your child's bus information. Please understand those times could vary a bit due to driver getting accustomed to the route and to last minute enrollments added to his/her roster. Our bus drivers have a huge responsibility, and we appreciate them greatly. 🚌
PreK riders are not always routed the first few days of school. This depends on when the Early Learning Department received the appropriate enrollment information from families.
Food and Nutrition
All of our students receive FREE Breakfast and Lunch. Students can choose to eat/not eat breakfast based on their morning routines. Linked below, when fully prepared, the menu will be available to you.
Birthday Celebrations!
It's your child's birthday!
You are welcome to come to school to have lunch with your child if it is his/her birthday. You can choose to come on that day, or a day that week that works for your schedule. If your child has a weekend, summer, or holiday birthday, and you would like to participate in this opportunity, please let me know, and we will arrange a date that is convenient for your schedule. To schedule a day/time, please let us know by using the Remind App, emailing, and or calling the school. You can also let your child's teacher know, and he/she can forward that information to the front office.
There is not space there for multiple families, so it is important that you let us know ahead of time, so we can get you on the schedule.
Google Chromebooks
All students will have 1:1 access to a Google Chromebook. If you are interested in purchasing insurance for this devices, please click on the provided link. The link also provides Q and A around this topic.
