We have had a wonderful start to the school year! It has been such a joy to get into the classrooms and see all the learning, play, and growth happening with our youngest learners.

As we enter the fall season, please dress your child in layers, as temperatures can fluctuate throughout the session. We will continue to spend time outdoors as long as the weather cooperates, so having appropriate clothing for changing temperatures will help ensure your child is comfortable and ready to learn and play.

We are also excited for our first Family Engagement Event of the school year! This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with ECSE staff and other families while learning more about how we can support your child’s development. You’ll hear from classroom teachers, speech-language therapists, and occupational therapists, and we’ll share helpful tips, strategies, and community resources. We look forward to seeing you Thursday and spending time together!

Warm regards,

Tera Sistad

ECSE Principal

What's Happening in Sam's Room

Over the past month, we’ve enjoyed getting to know each learner, exploring new materials, and practicing our classroom routines together. We’ve also started learning about the different kinds of lines we use to make letters. It’s been wonderful to watch the children make connections and try new things!

What's Happening in Claudia's Classroom

Claudia’s classroom started out the year by learning about big and little lines and curves. These concepts were introduced with wooden pieces that the learners could explore. We used the big lines to tap along to a song. We then moved into talking about big and little lines versus big and little curves. Once our students understood these concepts, we progressed to a favorite song of all our learners: Mat Man. The Mat Man song teaches children how to draw a person using big and little lines and curves. Again, we start with the wooden pieces and later progress to drawing on paper. All these foundational skills that we are working on give learners the confidence to begin writing uppercase letters. Below you will see a poster of Mat Man along with a picture of Mat Man that one of the children made while listening to the song. It doesn’t take long for them to catch on to this concept.

What's Happening in Carissa's Room

Our first month in the Agassiz E-STAR room has been spent building relationships and settling into routines at school. It has been so fun to see the growth each student has made with communication, developmental skills, and height over the summer! We’ve been learning individual interests, building stamina, and exploring new things with lots of modeling and the use of visuals for support. We look forward to a great year!

On the November 3 general election, Fargo Public Schools will have a question on the ballot for approval of an excess mill levy. The approval would grant Fargo Public Schools the authority to maintain its current offerings in its schools. Providing this authority ensures that the District can continue to cover the costs of offering a comprehensive educational experience for all learners.

Fargo Public Schools will host two information sessions where residents can learn about the ballot question, hear a presentation, and ask questions. Join us at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 6 in the South High School theater and 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 21 in the North High School theater.

Please vote on November 3 and visit www.fargo.k12.nd.us/vote2026 to learn more about the impact this vote will have on the District's schools, learners, educators, and the community.
