GO COLTS!

-Dr. Calvert

Letter from Dr. Calvert

A Note on Sportsmanship at After-School Events

Dear CMS Parents,

As we enjoy another exciting season of after-school athletics, I want to send a brief but important reminder regarding our expectations for student and spectator conduct.

We expect all CMS students to be on their best behavior at all times. Our students should represent Colleyville Middle School by only clapping and cheering for all athletes—both our own and the opposing teams—to encourage a positive and competitive atmosphere. Inappropriate or rude comments directed at opposing teams, players, or officials will not be tolerated.

Please be aware of the serious consequence for a breach of these expectations: If any CMS student is removed from a game on any GCISD property, they will be suspended from all future games for the remainder of the school year.

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain an environment that is respectful and positive for all participants. Your partnership allows us to display the amazing qualities that make CMS a great school.

Thank you,

Dr. Bryan Calvert

Counselor's Corner

8th Grade High School Planning Information

Good afternoon, Parents and Guardians of 8th Grade Students,

GCISD Counselors are excited to partner with you as your student prepares for an important educational milestone — high school.

We believe that equipping students with resilience, perseverance, and the ability to apply their knowledge to real-world situations is essential for future success. At GCISD, we aim to design educational experiences that foster meaningful learning and build lifelong skills for students' educational and career journeys.

High School Planning Meetings

Between October and early January, middle school counselors will meet individually with 8th grade students to develop their personalized 4-Year High School Plan.

To support your student in this process, we encourage you to review and assist them in completing the 4-Year HS Plan Form. While students do not need to indicate the level (e.g., on-level, Advanced, Honors, AP, Dual) of core classes at this time, these are great discussions to begin having. Course levels will be selected during the annual Course Request Window.

Important Notes When Reviewing the 4-Year HS Plan:

  • Pay close attention to CTE electives that are only available prior to 10th grade.

  • Review all course prerequisites, which are required courses a student must complete before enrolling in certain classes.

  • Some courses carry two (2) credits, meaning they will occupy two class periods. These should be written across two boxes on the plan.

  • The GCISD Course Selection Guide includes prerequisite information and credit values for each course.

Please watch the 4-Year HS Planning Informational Video (English):
https://youtu.be/I-_U_LihBdY

Next Steps:

After watching the 4-Year HS Planning Informational Video, please write down any questions you may have and plan to attend the optional 8th Grade Parent Meeting: 4-Year HS Planning Q & A Session on:

Monday, October 6
6:30 PM at CMS

Attachments Sent Through Skyward:

The following documents were sent through Skyward to help you and your student best plan for high school:

  • 4-Year HS Planning PowerPoint

  • GCISD Endorsement Areas & CTE Pathways

  • 4-Year High School Plan Template & Sample Plan

  • TEA Graduation Toolkit

We look forward to working with you and your student to develop a thoughtful and flexible plan that meets graduation requirements and supports future goals. Remember, the 4-Year Plan is a working document — it can and likely will change as your student progresses through high school.

Thank you for your continued support,
GCISD Counseling Team

Collegiate Academy: 8th Grade Families

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

I hope this message finds you well! During the month of October, GCISD Collegiate Academy will be on our campus to discuss an incredible opportunity for our Colts to earn both an associate degree and a high school diploma simultaneously at no cost to families.

Collegiate Academy, GCISD’s Early College High School, was recognized as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School recipient by the U.S. Department of Education for its outstanding commitment to high-quality education. This program offers students a valuable head start on their college education while still in high school at no cost to students and their families.

Collegiate Academy’s application opened on October 1st, and applications are already coming in! Please note that Collegiate Academy has limited spots, accepting only 100 students per cohort from all four GCISD middle schools combined. If you're interested in learning more, we invite you to attend a parent information meeting on Thursday, October 9th, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to ask questions and learn how your student can benefit from this program.

For those ready to apply now, the application form is available here: Collegiate Academy Application.

Thank you for considering this fantastic opportunity for your student. Collegiate Academy looks forward to seeing you on October 9th!

Thank you,

CMS Counselors

Dear families,

We’re thrilled to share that we’re heading to England, France on Spring Break in 2027, and we’d love for your student to join us!

This is an incredible opportunity for students to explore new places, experience different cultures, and gain lifelong skills like independence and confidence. I’ll be sharing all the details, including what we’ll see and do, hands-on learning activities, academic opportunities, trip costs, and how to secure a spot at our informational meeting.

Meeting details:
Date: October 15
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: CMS Library
RSVP here to join us: https://rsvp.eftours.com/ehp744g

We’ll also open enrollment during the meeting—spots are limited, and I would love to help you secure this experience for your child.

In the meantime, please visit EF’s website to get answers to common parent questions. EF Tours is our trusted travel partner, and they have 60 years of experience helping students explore the world safely and affordably.

I hope to see you there and look forward to sharing how this trip can be a powerful and unforgettable chapter in your child’s life!

Thanks,
Julie Robles

Please note this is a non-school sponsored trip.
