Message from the Principal
Dear Sato Families,
What an incredible way to wrap up the calendar year! I want to extend a huge thank you to our amazing families for the overwhelming generosity shown during our Lend a Paw drive. Because of your donations, our display cases were overflowing with items for those in need in our community. See below for a wonderful video showcasing all of the amazing donations!
As per tradition, since the cases were filled, Ms. Parker and I had the "honor" of being gift-wrapped and silly-stringed by our students during today’s all-school assembly! It is a tradition we look forward to every year, and seeing the joy and laughter on the students' faces made every bit of silly string worth it.
Looking Ahead to Winter Break
As we head into the holidays, I want to wish every one of our families a wonderful holiday season and a safe, restful winter break. We hope you enjoy this time with your loved ones and come back refreshed for the new year.
Please keep these important dates in mind for our return:
Monday, January 5: Professional Development Day (No school for students)
Tuesday, January 6: School resumes for all students
We are so grateful for your continued support and partnership.
Warmly,
Annie Pleau

We Are Sato Night (formally known as Cultural Night)
Thank you to everyone who shared their voice in our recent survey regarding our annual cultural celebration. Your feedback is vital as we partner with SECO to ensure this event is inclusive and truly representative of our school. If you haven’t had a chance to share your thoughts yet, we still want to hear from you! Please visit THIS link to complete the survey.
Our Vision: A Celebration of Us
We want to clarify the heart behind this evening: the goal is to lift up and recognize the incredible diversity and cultural traditions that make our community so rich. However, for this to be a success, we need you! This is a family-run event, and we can only learn about and appreciate the cultures that our families step forward to share.
A New Name: "We Are Sato"
We have heard some concerns about certain cultures not feeling represented. Our answer to that is: We want to see you there! You and your traditions are what make this school what it is. To reflect this, we are officially changing the name of the event to "We Are Sato Night." If you want to ensure your culture is represented, we invite you to host a booth. This is a beautiful opportunity for us to learn from one another, but it only happens if our community members are willing to share.
How to Get Involved
Please consider signing up to host a booth and help us celebrate the "We" in "We Are Sato."
Visit the SECO Website to learn more about hosting a booth and to sign up.
Important! Volunteers needed!
We are in need of a minimum of 10 more volunteers who can each commit to volunteering one day a week in January and February to run OBOB Battles from 11:00 am-12:30 pm.
This program cannot run without full volunteer staffing and right now we don’t have enough volunteers to run the battles.
Volunteers are welcome from all classes. You do not need to have a student currently enrolled in OBOB to volunteer! To volunteer, click here. All volunteers must have a completed background check on file.

K-2ND GRADE:
2 teams, with each team receiving 6 smaller garbage cans in 2 rows of 3...and 2 larger garbage cans next to them, one upside down with the other right side up on top of it. This was the more simple option for the younger grades where the kids had to bounce (or throw) a playground ball into one of the garbage cans. Sounds easy, but balls can bounce funny, hit the edge of the garbage can and not go in. If they got a ball in one of the 6 smaller cans, their team got a point. If they got a ball into the larger can, sitting on top of its twin, they got 5 points. The points really did not matter as the kids forgot to keep score. They simply like the idea of earning points. The kids had fun with this. A lot of sharing, retrieving balls for teammates, working things out if there was a dispute about their space in line, etc...And, as balls were not bounced correctly, or if they hit the edge of the garbage cans or simply missed...the kids had to persist, adjust, think about what went wrong and change their approach, etc...This all happened in split second, blink of an eye moments.
3RD-5TH GRADE:
A little similar to the younger grades, but different on purpose. They are older, have more fine motor skills, etc...For these older 3 grades we changed it up. We kept the larger red garbage cans stacked on each other. But we took the 6 black garbage cans, and rather than arranging them side by side, we stacked them too...in line with the red cans. Similar to K-2, the kids bounced their team ball trying to get it into any of the garbage cans. Since they were stacked, they were higher up and harder to get the balls into. A better challenge for the older kids. If they got a ball in, they removed that can from the game and took the bottom/upside down can and flipped it upright. The 1st team to remove all 8 of their cans won that round. The kids really got into it and we got a good number of rounds in per grade. The 5th graders decided to go with girls vs. boys and we played the best out of 5. Girls won, 3-2!

In District Transfer Window Now Open (Formally known as Open Enrollment)
In-district transfers offer transfer opportunities for students living in Beaverton School District boundaries who wish to attend another BSD school outside of their assigned school.
BSD is offering in-district transfers for the 2026-2027 school year at the following schools:
Elementary Schools
Bethany, Cedar Mill, Chehalem, Cooper Mountain, Errol Hassel, Findley, Fir Grove, Greenway, Hiteon, Kinnaman, McKay, Nancy Ryles, Oak Hills, Raleigh Hills, Raleigh Park, Ridgewood, Rock Creek, Sexton Mountain, Terra Linda, West Tualatin View
Middle Schools
Cedar Park, Five Oaks, Highland Park, Mountain View
High Schools
Beaverton, Southridge, Sunset
Applications for in-district transfers will be available for submission on the district website, starting Monday, December 8 through Monday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m.
Please consider these important factors when applying for an in-district transfer:
Only one application for one school will be accepted per student.
Transportation for a student on an in-district transfer is the responsibility of the family. Transportation is not provided by the district.
Students should be committed to attending the in-district transfer school for the entire academic year.
The approval is for the duration of the current school level only. When students reach the next school level (e.g. moving from elementary to middle school), enrollment reverts to the assigned boundary school.
There is no guarantee that siblings’ applications will be approved.
A lottery system may be used if there are more applications than available spaces.
Students must maintain attendance of 92% or greater. There should be no more than one minor suspension per academic year, no suspension greater than five days and no expulsion. In-district transfers may be revoked if these standards are not met.
Students placed in special education programs must work with the special education team regarding their assignments. Specialized programs are only offered at specific schools determined by the district.
Families will be informed of student acceptance via email within seven school days of the in-district transfer window closing. Parents/guardians have until Friday, February 6 to confirm acceptance either by email or phone.
If you have questions, please email In-District-Transfer@beaverton.k12.or.us or call the District Administrative Office at 503-356-4500.
