SEPAG INFORMATION
We are excited to invite you to become a part of our district’s Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG)—a collaborative partnership between parents and school district leaders.
What is SEPAG?
SEPAG is a state-mandated advisory group designed to give parents of students with disabilities a voice in shaping special education programs and services in our schools. It is not a support group, but rather a forum where parents and district administrators work together to:
-
Identify and discuss strengths and areas of need within special education.
-
Provide input on policies, programs, and practices that impact students with disabilities.
-
Foster communication and collaboration between families and the district.
-
Share resources, ideas, and strategies that support student success.
Why Join SEPAG?
Your perspective as a parent is invaluable. By joining SEPAG, you become a parent leader and advocate, ensuring that the voices of families are represented in district decision-making. SEPAG helps to:
-
Build stronger connections between home and school.
-
Promote understanding of special education laws, services, and supports.
-
Ensure that every child has access to meaningful educational opportunities.
Who Should Participate?
All parents and guardians of students with disabilities are welcome. Whether your child receives an IEP or 504 Plan, your experiences and insights can make a difference.

Special Services Staff Spotlight
Christopher Butler, Director of Special Services
What inspired you to work in special education? What initially inspired me to enter special education was the opportunity to advocate for inclusive, data-driven, and highly individualized student growth. I dedicated 11 years to the classroom as a special education teacher, where I found immense fulfillment in diagnosing learning barriers, celebrating student breakthroughs, and partnering closely with families. That decade of direct classroom experience shaped my core belief that every student can succeed with the right supports in place. Moving into administration was a natural next step, enabling me to scale my impact from a single classroom to systemic district leadership, ensuring both our staff and our students have the institutional backing they need to excel.
What are you most excited about for this school year? We have some great initiatives that we are starting this year. Specifically, we have been awarded an opportunity to work with the Boggs Center at Rutgers University to implement a Community Based Instruction Program with selected high school classes. This program will provide our students an opportunity to get out into the community and learn skills needed to be successful after high school.
What’s one fun fact about you? We are an education family. My wife is a High School English teacher and my daughter, Madeline, is study to be a Speech Language Pathologist.
