Principal Points
Dear Roosevelt Families,
What a wonderful week at Roosevelt! As we continue moving through October, our Tigers are settling into routines, building friendships, and growing as learners. There is so much to celebrate, and even more to look forward to!
Thank You for a Wonderful Week of Parent-Teacher Conferences!
A big thank you to all of our Roosevelt families who joined us for Parent-Teacher Conferences this past week! We truly appreciate you taking the time to connect with our teachers, celebrate your child's successes, and discuss their continued learning and growth.
One of the greatest strengths of our Roosevelt community is the partnership between home and school. When families and educators work together, our Tigers benefit! These conversations are an important opportunity to strengthen relationships, share insights, and ensure we are working together to help every child reach their full potential.
October Character Focus: RESPECT
Throughout the month of October, our schoolwide character focus is RESPECT!
At Roosevelt, we believe respect is more than simply being polite or using good manners. It is about how we treat others, how we respond when things don't go our way, how we care for our school, and how we make others feel.
During our daily Morning Meetings, students will engage in meaningful conversations, activities, and reflections centered around what respect looks like, sounds like, and feels like in our school community.
For our elementary learners, respect can be demonstrated through everyday actions:
Listening when someone else is speaking.
Using kind words, even when we disagree.
Including others and appreciating differences.
Taking care of our classroom, materials, and shared spaces.
Respecting personal space and the feelings of others.
Understanding that we can feel frustrated or disappointed while still choosing respectful responses.
One of the most important lessons we can teach children is that respect doesn't mean we always agree, but it does mean we treat one another with kindness and dignity—even when things are difficult.
How can families support this work at home?
We encourage you to continue these conversations with your child! Ask questions such as, "What does respect look like when someone has a different opinion?" or "How can you show respect when you are frustrated?" Celebrate moments when your child demonstrates patience, kindness, and consideration for others.
Tiger Time Intervention Groups Begin This Week!
We are excited to officially begin our first round of intervention groups this week!
Over the past several weeks, our teachers have been thoughtfully reviewing assessment data, collaborating with their grade-level teams, and planning targeted instruction to meet the individual learning needs of our students.
During our dedicated intervention block, students will transition into small groups to receive focused literacy instruction designed to strengthen foundational skills, provide additional support, or offer enrichment opportunities.
One important message we want our students to understand is that every learner has different strengths, different needs, and different next steps. Intervention is not about where a student falls compared to others; it is about helping each child grow from where they are today.
We are excited to see the progress our Tigers will make as we continue providing intentional, targeted instruction that meets their needs!
With Tiger Pride,
Mrs. Samouelian
FAMILY SURVEY
Each year, we invite families to complete a survey about their elementary school experience and share their feedback. We use this feedback to help us continue improving the educational experiences we provide for students and families. At Roosevelt, we are committed to helping every Tiger learn, grow, and succeed, and your voice is an important part of that work!
Please take a minute to complete the Elementary Family Survey The survey will remain open through October 26th. Thank you for your continued support, feedback, and partnership. We are grateful for our Roosevelt families and we are looking forward to growing with you and your Tiger this year!
EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE - PHOTO ID REQUIRED
All Early Releases will require identification
As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, please be reminded that a valid physical photo ID (such as a driver’s license or state ID) is required for anyone picking up a student. Starting immediately, our staff will be strictly enforcing this verification process every single time a student is signed out, without exception. Even if our team recognizes you, this uniform safety measure ensures we maintain the highest level of security for all children in our care. We kindly ask that you have your ID ready upon arrival to help keep the dismissal process moving smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation and partnership in keeping our school community safe!
CHARACTER TRAIT: RESPECT
As we focus on Respect throughout October at Roosevelt, we encourage families to continue these important conversations at home! Disney movies offer wonderful opportunities to help children understand kindness, empathy, acceptance, and the importance of treating others with respect—even when we have different opinions, experiences, or feelings.
Here are a few family favorites that can spark meaningful conversations with your Tigers!
Zootopia
Respecting differences and avoiding assumptions
Judy and Nick learn that people should not be judged by appearances or stereotypes.
Ask your Tiger: "Why is it important to get to know someone before making assumptions about them?"
Inside Out
Respecting feelings and showing empathy
Riley's emotions help us understand that everyone experiences different feelings, and all feelings deserve acknowledgment.
Ask your Tiger: "How can you show respect when someone is upset, even if you don't understand why?"
Lilo & Stitch
Showing kindness, belonging, and acceptance
Lilo and Stitch remind us that families and friendships can look different, and everyone deserves to feel included.
Ask your Tiger: "What can you do when you notice someone feeling left out?"
