Dear LTPS Families,

It is with great excitement and optimism that I welcome you to the 2026–2027 school year! Whether you are returning to Lawrence Township Public Schools or joining our community for the first time, we are thrilled to welcome you and your children back to school.

I spent some time in Spanish-speaking countries this summer, and I came home with a phrase that I want to carry with me into this school year: Pura Vida. Literally translated, it means “pure life,” but in Costa Rica, where the phrase is especially woven into everyday life, it means so much more. It is a way of saying hello, goodbye, thank you, you're welcome, and, perhaps most importantly, "life is good." It represents an appreciation for the simple things, a positive outlook, gratitude, and embracing the moment. There is so much to look forward to as we begin a new school year; from the excitement of a new classroom and reconnecting with friends and teachers to the many opportunities our students will have to learn, grow, explore, and discover what they are capable of achieving. Pura Vida!

Our seven schools each have their own unique personality and traditions, but together we are one LTPS community. We are committed to creating schools where every student feels a strong sense of belonging and mattering, where every family feels welcome, and where every child has the support, encouragement, and opportunities they need to thrive.

While students have been enjoying the final weeks of summer, our staff have been busy behind the scenes preparing for their arrival. Classrooms are being readied, buildings are being refreshed, technology and instructional materials are being organized, and countless details are being coordinated to make sure we are ready to open our doors on the first day of school.

We are also excited to see the continued progress of our school construction projects. At Lawrence Middle School, work on the auditorium is nearing completion, with the renovated space expected to welcome students and staff this fall. This is the first phase of the larger LMS renovation and expansion project, and we look forward to sharing updates as this exciting work continues. We appreciate the patience and support of our students, families, staff, and community as we work to create modern, flexible spaces that will serve our students for generations to come.

As we begin the year, I encourage every family to stay connected, get involved, and take advantage of the many opportunities to be part of our school community. Attend an event, join your school's PTO, connect with your child's teachers, volunteer when you can, and follow LTPS through our many communication channels. Strong schools are built through strong partnerships with families and our community. When we say #LTPSThisIsUs, we mean ALL of us, including YOU!

Expanded Cell Phone Policy Across the District

Lawrence Township Public Schools will continue to implement our "Away for the Day" cell phone policy across all schools. At all of our schools, students are expected to keep personal cell phones and other non-school electronic devices away during the entire school day. An expansion of this policy applies to the high school, to now include passing periods, lunch, study halls, and other supervised school activities during the school day where cell phones were previously permitted.

We recognize that this is an important change for some students and families. The goal is to create environments where students can be fully present, engaged with their teachers and classmates, and focused on learning and building relationships. If you have questions, please reach out to your child's principal.

Communication Communication

We are continuing to use TalkingPoints, our two-way multilingual family engagement platform, which allows staff to communicate with families in more than 100 languages. Families do not need to do anything to receive messages via text. To receive messages through the app—which many families find convenient—download the TalkingPoints family app (Apple or Android) or access TalkingPoints through the district mobile app.

The LTPS mobile app is another great way to stay connected with our schools. Families can access Genesis, district and school news, calendars, directories, lunch menus, important notifications, and more—all in one place. The app also includes our anonymous Tip Line.

We encourage families to make sure their contact information is current in Genesis and to follow LTPS and your child's school on our official communication channels so you don't miss important updates throughout the year.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education and for being an important part of the LTPS community. We are grateful for the partnership of our families and community, and we are excited about all that this new school year will bring.

Safe Pick-Up and Drop-Off Safe Pick-Up and Drop-Off

We ask families who drive to school for drop-off or dismissal to help us keep our school grounds safe and our air cleaner for our children.

Please turn off your vehicle's engine while waiting in school pick-up and drop-off lines, particularly when you arrive early and are waiting for dismissal to begin. Many vehicles arrive well before dismissal, and turning off engines during this waiting period helps reduce exhaust and air pollution in the areas where our children learn and play. It also saves you money, as idling for 10 seconds uses more fuel than restarting the engine.

Once dismissal begins and the line is moving, drivers should follow the directions of school staff and proceed safely through the line. Thank you for helping us create a healthier and safer environment for our students.
