October Weekly Update ~ October 23, 2026
A note from Mr. Lee
One Week Left in the First Card Marking!
It's hard to believe, but we are just one week away from the end of our first card marking on Friday, October 30th! As we approach the finish line, this is a great opportunity for families to check in with their students about their academic progress. I encourage parents to take a few minutes this weekend to review grades in PowerSchool, discuss any missing assignments, and help their child develop a plan to finish the card marking strong.
Middle school is all about building good habits, learning responsibility, and developing independence. One of our goals at Carter this year is moving students from "I Can" to "I Own," helping them take ownership of their learning and understand what they need to do to be successful. Sometimes that means celebrating their accomplishments, and other times it means having those tough conversations about effort, organization, and accountability.
Remember, it's not always about the grade, but the habits and effort that lead to the grade.
Have a great weekend!
Special Remarks from Mr. Syswerda
The week of October 27 is the last week of the 1st quarter. I strongly encourage all students to check in with their teachers to make sure they've done everything they can to make sure their grades are as high as possible. If there are missing assignments or assessments, the time to turn those in is rapidly slipping away.
Also, our fall sports, football and volleyball, are wrapping up. We will be having boys basketball tryouts on November 4th and 5th. If your son is interested in trying out and does not have a physical yet, please schedule the physical and submit the required documentation via Final Forms as soon as possible.

Fun Fact
Kiwi isn't originally from New Zealand or Australia. This Fruit was originally grown in China and was known as the Chinese gooseberry until 1959.
8th Grade Volleyball ~ CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to the 8th grade volleyball team who is once again undefeated. This past season has shown how important teamwork is. During yesterdays match against Carleton the girls won the first set 25-7, battled in the second set winning 25-23, and wrapped up set three with a win of 25-15. Shoutout to all the 8th grade volleyball players for competing this season!
VOLLEYBALL
The Carter volleyball team celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness month by having players and spectators honor people who are currently fighting the battle of cancer and the brave warriors who are survivors.
SCHOOL ID'S
Student ID cards are required to be worn at all times while at school.
If a student loses their ID, a replacement can be purchased for $5. Lanyards are available for $2 each, and Cougar Cards can be replaced for $1.
- Students who need a new ID or lanyard can visit the Counseling Office.
- Students who need a new Cougar Card can visit the Front Office.
Please note that student IDs are required for all sporting events and special activities, both during and after school.
Thank you for helping ensure students have their ID with them at all times throughout the school year.
6th Boot Camp
The 6th grade students participated in another Boot Camp assembly on October 15th. This month's topic was anti-bullying. The 6th grade students along with our 8th grade leadership team completed team building activities, and anti-bullying activities. We ended the meeting with an anti-bullying escape room. It was a great assembly, and we thank the students for being so engaged in our lessons.
Important Reminder Regarding Messages to Students
We have recently experienced an influx of parent phone calls requesting that the office deliver messages to students in their classrooms. While we understand that plans can occasionally change, the majority of these requests are coming at the end of the school day. This can make it difficult for our secretaries to get messages to classrooms while also managing dismissal.
We ask that families make arrangements with their students regarding how they will be getting home before they arrive at school each day.
If you need to get a message to your student on an emergency basis, please make every effort to call the school office as early as possible so we have enough time to deliver the message.
Last-minute messages can be especially difficult to deliver during dismissal, when office staff and teachers are busy assisting students with buses, lockers, and other dismissal procedures.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep dismissal running smoothly and safely.
