A Great Start

Dear Families,

Thank you for a tremendous first six weeks of school! Our students have settled into routines filled with learning and growth, and I’ve been so impressed by their effort and enthusiasm.

Your ongoing support for our district and mission to provide a learning experience that is second to none means so much to all of us.

Have a great week!

Inclement Weather

Winter will be here before we know it! If inclement weather makes it unsafe for students and staff to travel to school, you will receive a message from me. I typically send an email, text message, and voice recording to ensure that everyone receives the message. Now would be a good time to log into the infinite Campus Parent Portal to ensure that phone numbers and emails are correct.

Weather announcements are also broadcasted on KDOM radio, KEYC TV, WCCO TV, KELO TV, and KARE 11TV. We also share the information on the Windom Schools Facebook page and Twitter Handle.

There are three types of days that may be called due to inclement weather.

  • E-Learning

An E-Learning Day will be announced as early as possible, but by statute must be determined no later than two hours before the start of the school day. Preschool, Elementary, and Middle School students will have work in their take-home folders to complete and High School Students will log into Infinite Campus for their classes. All teachers will be available by phone and email on E-Learning Days.

  • Good Old Fashion Snowday

A good old fashion snow day means that there is no school for students or staff.

  • Virtual Professional Development

A virtual professional development day means that students will have the day off and staff will participate in virtual professional development.

Vision for Windom Update

You may have heard that the district is part of a Vision for Windom group with Mayor Mathis, City Administrator Steve Nasby, Windom Area Health, Staples Oil, LaCanne Family Celebration of Life, Bank Midwest, Toro, and EDA Director Sonya Wilt to create a plan to make Windom attractive to young families. We have four goals including a daycare center and improvement of school facilities, a pool, trails, and growth of businesses.

Today, we are writing a grant to the Taylor Family Farms Foundation for $50,000 to be used toward the remodeling of three classrooms within the Highland Early Learning Center. These classrooms will be used for as a daycare center with two infant rooms, a toddler room, and a preschool age room.

Also, the committee has been accepted by First Children's Finance. This is a non-profit organization which has helped many communities create and sustain daycare centers in southern MN. We begin our work with them in November.
