New Jersey School Climate Improvement Survey: Parents/Caregivers
Dear Parent/Guardian(s),
Our school is participating in survey data collection using the New Jersey School Climate Improvement (NJ SCI) Survey to help obtain multiple perspectives on aspects of school climate. Collecting data is important for understanding strengths and needs in our school and how it feels to be a member of the school community.
Your voice is important to us, and your opinions will help us to address current priorities. The survey is anonymous and it is voluntary. The results will be used to help create a plan to address school climate needs and make improvements to the school. You may submit a separate survey per child in the school building if you feel their experiences are different, but you do not have to.
Please click the link below and enter the password: parent
If you have any questions during or after the survey, please contact Alyssa Miller at amiller@lawnside.k12.nj.us.
We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to exploring new ways to continue working together to create the most supportive and engaging learning environment for your child.
Please complete the survey by Friday April 4, 2025

Stress Awareness Month
April is Stress Awareness Month, and our school community is committed to supporting student mental health and well-being. Stress is a normal part of life, but learning to manage it effectively can make a significant difference in your academic and personal success.
What is Stress?
Stress is your body's natural response to challenges and demands. While some stress can be motivating, prolonged or overwhelming stress can negatively impact your physical and mental health, academic performance, and overall quality of life.
Recognizing Stress Signs

Changes in sleep patterns
Increased irritability
Physical symptoms like headaches or stomach issues
Feeling overwhelmed or anxious
Practical Stress Management Strategies

- Get 7-9 hours of sleep nightly
- Maintain a balanced diet
- Exercise regularly
- Practice mindfulness or meditation
Time Management

- Break large tasks into smaller, manageable steps
- Create realistic study schedules
- Learn to prioritize and set boundaries
Connect and Seek Support

Remember
Stress is temporary, and you are stronger than you think. By recognizing stress and implementing healthy coping mechanisms, you can transform challenges into opportunities for growth and resilience.
Take care of yourself, support each other, and don't be afraid to reach out when you need help.
Together, we can navigate stress and build a healthier, happier school community.

Family Academic Night 2025
Greetings Lawnside Families,
On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, I want to express our sincere gratitude for your participation in last night's Family Academic Night. Your presence and engagement made the evening a tremendous success!
New Jersey State Learning Assessment 2025
The students of Lawnside Public School District will begin taking the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) this month(schedule below). This standardized testing program evaluates student proficiency in mathematics, English language arts, and science based on New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Fifth and eighth grade will take the science assessment. The assessment provides valuable data to educators and administrators about student achievement and helps identify areas where additional support may be needed. We have been preparing students through curriculum alignment and test-taking strategies. Parents are encouraged to ensure their children get adequate rest and nutrition during the testing period to help them perform at their best. Results from the NJSLA will be used to inform educational decisions at the classroom, school, and district levels.

Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM)
Dear Guardian/Parent,
The alternate assessment for students with the most significant intellectual disabilities in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science is called the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM). The state of New Jersey and other states are working with the University of Kansas to implement this assessment system. Periodically, the DLM or the Department of Education will send updates to Chief School Administrators in order to help districts prepare for the online computer-based assessment. The DLM test specifications and Essential Elements skill statements, used for instruction and assessment, are currently available and accessible via the DLM website. All districts are asked to regularly check the DLM website for available information including test design, technology requirements, required training materials, professional development modules, and assessment timelines for the operational testing year. For information on the DLM, go to the Dynamic Learning Maps New Jersey website.
Lawnside School District testing window: April 7 - April 17th.
