Dear Golden Eagle Families,

Teachers are starting to float back into the building, and we're gearing for "Launch Week" next week, where we kick off the year, get some additional training, and get everything ready for our students.

We can't wait to see our 6th graders Wed, Sept 9th. They're going to meet our amazing group of 8th grade WEB Leaders who will acculturate them to the "PCMS Way." If you're a new family, welcome! If you're a returning family, welcome back!

It's going to be another great year!

Sean

One of our goals at PCMS is to keep students and families informed and up to date throughout the school year. We will continue to share News From the Nest each Friday afternoon with important reminders, updates, and information about what is happening at school.

BLS School District has changed communication platforms. We will now use ParentSquare for district and school communications with families. ParentSquare is a user friendly and customizable platform that allows you to choose how you receive school updates and communications.

With the start of the school year, this first edition of News From the Nest may feel like a lot of information. We encourage you to take some time to read through it, as well as the BLS Family Spotlight, and refer back to these resources throughout the year for important news and updates.

Student schedules will be accessible via ParentVue and StudentVue in the evening on September 3rd.

Building a master schedule is an intricate process that takes 100’s of hours of work. Even seemingly minor changes can have a dramatic effect. Due to its complexity, we are not accepting any schedule changes. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

New to PCMS as a 7th or 8th Grader? New to PCMS as a 7th or 8th Grader?

Pacific Crest will be hosting a brief orientation session for new 7th and 8th grade Pacific Crest students on Wednesday, September 9th, from 1:30-2:15 pm. School is in session for our 6th graders on this day; therefore this opportunity is for students only. Parents will be able to see the building and meet teachers in September during our open house.

During the orientation, new students will receive their schedules, test out lockers, tour the building, and get to meet some of our wonderful 8th grade WEB leaders. Families will need to provide transportation to and from Pacific Crest. If you would like your student to participate in this, please fill out this form to register your student for orientation. If you have any questions, contact our main office at (541)-355-7804.

We look forward to meeting your student and welcome your family to the Pacific Crest Community!

Warmly,

Pacific Crest Student Services

A Word From Nurse Oliver A Word From Nurse Oliver

As students prepare to return to school, this is a great time for families to review the Health & Wellness information available on the Bend La Pine Schools website. There you can find answers questions like: When must I keep my student home if they’re ill? What immunizations are required in middle school? What are the rules for medications at school?

If your student will require medications at school, you are welcome to avoid the rush by bringing them in before the first day of school. Our main office is open from 8am to 4pm on weekdays (we’ll be closed on Labor Day). All medications and forms will be reviewed by the nurse.

Still have questions? Please reach out to our consulting Registered Nurse, Oliver Tatom: oliver.tatom@bend.k12.or.us.

Q: Can I get a tour of the school?

A: Unfortunately, we do not offer private school tours. We will host our Back-to-School Night on September 24, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for students to walk their families through their schedules, meet their teachers, and connect with PCMS administration.

There will also be many volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. Volunteering is a great way for guardians to get involved and become part of the PCMS community, both on and off campus.

PCMS will also host a Welcome Event for 5th Grade Families on March 11, 2027.

Q: Other schools are hosting an Open House, and I haven’t heard anything about this from PCMS. Are you having one?

A: While we understand that some schools have chosen to host an Open House before the start of the school year, PCMS will host a Back-to-School Night on September 24, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. This event is for students and families and is a great opportunity to meet teachers, learn more about the school, and walk through your student’s schedule.

Q: How can I contact my student’s teachers?

A: Teachers have different communication preferences. Once school begins, your student’s teachers will send information to families about their preferred method of communication. Please use that method when reaching out to them throughout the school year.

Q: My student would like to change their schedule/make a schedule request. Who can I speak to about a schedule change?

A: Building the master schedule is an intricate process that requires hundreds of hours of planning. Even seemingly minor changes can have a significant impact on classes and student schedules. Due to the complexity of the scheduling process, we are not accepting schedule change requests. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Q: My student is advanced in math. How can they move to a higher-level math class?

A: Unfortunately, there will not be math bypass testing available this fall. However, we will review student data in the spring. This is a district-wide change for the 2026–27 school year. Please wait for spring communication from PCMS.

Q: I have a student with an IEP. Who can I speak to about this?

A: Your student’s IEP case manager will reach out to you regarding their plan once they return from summer break. Please allow them time to reconnect with families and prepare for the new school year.

Q: I have a student with a 504 plan. Who can I speak to about this?

A: Your student’s counselor will reach out to you regarding their 504 plan once they return from summer break. Please allow them time to reconnect with families and prepare for the new school year.

Q: I need to request a new 504 plan. How do I do this?

A: If you would like to request a new 504 plan, please email your student’s counselor.

*Please be aware that it may take up to a month for this to be scheduled.

Q: I need help getting my student registered for sports. Where can I find information?

A: We understand there are several steps involved in registering for sports. Before contacting the school, please review our sports registration how-to guide, which walks families through the process.

Q: I have a grandparent who would like to attend a PCMS event. Where can I find dates and information?

A: Dates for sporting events and school events can be found on the PCMS website calendar. Please keep in mind that we update the calendars as information becomes available to us. If an event is not listed, we may not have the details available yet.

Once event details are finalized, information will also be shared with families through ParentSquare and our weekly blog, News From the Nest.
