Principal's Message
Dear Families,
As we move into the spring season, we are preparing for our annual state assessments. Beginning Monday, April 6, 2026, students in grades 3–5 will participate in the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS).
It is incredibly important that students are present during these testing dates. Having your child at school on time helps them feel relaxed and ready to do their best alongside their peers, while also minimizing the need for "make-up" sessions that pull them away from their regular classroom activities.
What does CMAS assess?
The CMAS measures how well students have mastered the Colorado Academic Standards, which are the expectations for what students should know at each grade level:
English Language Arts (ELA): Reading comprehension, analyzing texts, and evidence-based writing.
Mathematics: Concept understanding, procedural skills, and real-world application.
Science (Grade 5 only): Scientific evidence and reasoning.
Social Studies (Grade 4 only): History, geography, economics, and civics.
Typical Testing Times (Grades 3–5)
These units are spread out over several days. The state requires the following timeframes for each session:

Annual Family Check-In
Thompson School District's Annual Family Check-In for the 2026-2027 school year is now available through your Parent Portal account and takes less than 5 minutes to complete!
This yearly update is required for every student enrolled in Thompson School District and must be completed by a parent or guardian for the 2026-2027 school year. Parents and guardians in the student’s primary household can complete the application by reviewing and updating household, emergency contact, student health information and permissions via the link. This information is used in the day-to-day operations of your child's school and it is imperative that it's accurate. Schools and district staff also use it to communicate important announcements and to reach out to you in cases of emergency.
Accessing the Annual Family Check-In Link: https://www.tsd.org/enrollment/afc
1) Follow the instructions on the web page to log into your Parent Portal account.
2) If you are not able to access your Portal account, please contact your student's school front office staff, the TSD Help Desk at helpdesk@tsd.org, or call 970-613-7777.

Attendance Letters
New Attendance Letter Process
We wanted to share an update about a new district-wide process for attendance communication this year. The district has now enabled an automated attendance letter system, which will send notifications to families when a student reaches 4, 7, 10, and 30 days absent. These letters are designed to keep families informed about their child’s attendance and to help identify any potential attendance concerns early on.
Please know that while these letters are automatically generated, we still greatly appreciate your continued communication when your child will be absent. We understand that illnesses and family circumstances come up, and we do not expect students to attend school when they are sick.
Attendance Tip of the Month:
Develop backup plans. If something comes up and you’re unable to take your child to school on time, make plans with a family member, a neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.
Thank you for helping us support strong attendance and a healthy learning environment for all students!
For more information visit our Attendance Page on our website!

You can report your child's absence on the parent portal, by calling the attendance line, or calling the main office! See instructions below.
