π» NWEA MAP: What Parents Need to Know π»
December 10th: Reading Assessment
December 11th: Math Assessment
This month, students will take the Winter NWEA MAP Assessment, which helps us measure how much theyβve grown since the beginning of the school year.
What is MAP?
MAP stands for Measures of Academic Progress. Itβs an online test in Reading and Math that adapts to each childβs level.
-
If your child answers a question correctly, the next one becomes a little harder.
-
If they miss a question, the next one becomes a little easier.
This allows the test to find your childβs exact learning level.
What will the Winter MAP show?
The winter test gives us a mid-year check so we can:
-
Celebrate growth
-
See where extra practice may help
-
Make sure students are on track for end-of-year goals
How can parents support?
The best way to help your child is simply to:
-
Encourage them to do their best
-
Make sure they get a good nightβs sleep
-
Arrive at school on time on testing days
MAP is just one tool we useβbut itβs very helpful in guiding instruction and supporting each studentβs individual progress.

π PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) π
At Sharon Elementary, we use PBIS β Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports β to help create a safe, respectful, and welcoming school environment where all students can learn and grow. PBIS is a school-wide approach that focuses on teaching and encouraging positive behaviors.
As Jaguars, we ROAR. We are Respectful, Organized, Accepting, and Responsible. Please review and remind your child that we want to ROAR every day in the cafeteria, hallways, playground, and in the classroom. We have lots of fun plans for this school year to reward positive behaviors. The December Character trait word is Gratitude.
