A Note From the Principal A Note From the Principal

Dear Cobra Families,

The first month of school has been a great success. Our students have done a wonderful job of settling into their new schedules, they did a great job completing iReady assessments, and our sports teams are off to a wonderful start! I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who planned, organized, volunteered and/or participated in our fantastic welcome back picnic last Sunday. It was a perfect way to connect with friends and families.

This weekend is also full of exciting opportunities to connect with the Birmingham community and our Cobra families. Mr. Hill challenged all fifth grade students to sign up for the annual 5th grade run tomorrow, October 3rd at Beverly Park. If 90% of students register, he will run along with them tomorrow in his inflatable chicken costume. Click here to register. On Sunday 4th, our friends from the Trek Royal Oak store will be at BCS in the front dropoff/pickup loop doing free bike safety inspections and small repairs for students' bikes in preparation for Wednesday's bike and walk to school day.

I wanted to share a few more reminders for efficiency and student safety during drop off and pick up time. Please park only in designated parking spots in the parking lot in order to maintain the capacity for two way traffic in and out of the lot. If you choose not to park and use the car pool loop, please remind all family members that drive to remain in the car, and to pull forward as far as they can so that students can exit the vehicle safely and independently on the sidewalk side only.

As we head into October, we know our community is looking forward to all of the fun events and festivities that come with fall. Make sure you stay up to date by downloading the new Mobile app, which brings together all BCS news, announcements, reminders and updates.

Learn more and download the BPS mobile app

Thank you for being an integral part of our Cobra family and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions, ideas or suggestions

7/8 Teacher Gift Collection

Even though we don't have room parents for our 7/8 classes, we still love to show our 7/8 teachers how much we appreciate them on their birthdays and during Teacher Appreciation Week in the Spring! Our PTSA Secretary, Lisa Fisher, has kindly offered to help with this collection again this year, and we would be so grateful for your contributions. The recommended donation is $15. You can use the QR code below to Venmo your contribution if you'd like to participate. Gift Crowd will still be available for Holiday and End of Year gifts. All funds collected will be evenly distributed amongst these teachers. We appreciate your support!

BCS Green Team - Opportunity for 6th-8th Grade Students

The BCS Green Team is looking for 6th-8th grade students to join our BCS Recycling Team. Team members will report to school at 7:45 am on Mondays and/or Fridays to assist the PTSA Green Team in moving the contents of our classroom recycling bins to the school's designated recyclables dumpster outside the school. Help make our school GREEN and earn credit towards our Michigan Green Schools certification.

Since we know students' schedules can change each quarter due to sports and other activities, we will send out a sign-up each quarter. The link below is for Q1 2026. Our first Recycling Team pickup will be on Friday, September 11th.

Please use this link to apply.

Health and Wellness Health and Wellness

When a health and wellness issue arises, the district works together with the school(s) to provide families with useful information and resources that can help prevent the spread of illness or obtain treatment . Please visit our school webpage here for important forms and resources pertaining to health.

Wireless Device Policy Wireless Device Policy

At Birmingham Public Schools, we are committed to transparency and keeping our school community informed. There have been questions about the difference between the new state law and Birmingham’s policy. Under recent updates to Michigan’s Revised School Code (MCL 380.1303a), public school districts statewide are now legally required to restrict student access to personal cell phones and wireless communication devices during instructional time.

This summer, our Board of Education adopted a bell-to-bell wireless device policy for all students. The policy also discontinues our Bring Your Own Device practice, which means students may only use district-provided devices for instructional purposes and with the permission of a teacher. While these expectations are broader than the minimum requirements of the state law, they provide a consistent expectation throughout the school day and are intended to help students remain focused on academics, relationships, and the overall school experience.
