5Essentials
Parents across Illinois once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school. WELCH CURRENTLY HAS 9% COMPLETION RATE, SO WE NEED 11% MORE!
To take this short survey:
1. Visit 5Essentials Survey Link
2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
The survey will be open through March 13, 2026.
Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
Our students will soon be taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) starting next week. This assessment provides valuable information about student progress in English Language Arts and Math and helps us better understand how to support each learner’s growth.
Your partnership is essential in helping students do their very best!
Here are a few important ways families can support their child during testing:
Prioritize attendance. Please make every effort to have your child at school on testing days and arrive on time. Consistent attendance helps students feel calm and prepared.
Ensure a good night’s sleep. Well-rested students are better able to focus, think critically, and manage their stamina during testing.
Eat a healthy, filling breakfast. A nutritious breakfast helps fuel the brain and supports concentration throughout the morning.
Most importantly, encourage your child to try their best and remind them that this is an opportunity to show what they know. We are proud of their hard work and growth this year!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Welch 25-26 Yearbook Cover Contest
It is time for the Welch Yearbook Cover Contest! Students in grades 1 -5 are eligible to participate; entries are due by Friday, March 27th. Please see the link below for more information!
March 17th E Learning Day
Linked below is a schedule for the March 17th E Learning Day. Our kindergarten and first grade students will receive a learning packet to complete on this day, while students in grades 2- 5 will engage in both synchronous and asynchronous instruction via Google Meet. Teachers will be sharing information as we get closer to the date, and I will share staff Google Meet links. Please reach out to your child's teacher with any questions!
New Exterior Strobe Lights
An RLock strobe light have been placed outside Welch's main entrance. This strobe is similar to what we have in our Main office and will be activated when we use the RLock messaging system within our school. It will have a red strobe for ALICE Alert, yellow for the other Alerts, and green for All clear. We wanted to ensure all families are aware and understand the meaning if they approach the building and see the strobe light in activation mode. Please reach out with any questions!
Daily Snacks
As a reminder, students are invited to have a snack each day. The office does have some snacks, but we are unable to provide snacks to all of our White Tigers daily. Please remind your student(s) to bring a snack to have each day. Thank you.
School Lunch Menu
Additional Lunch

The cost is as follows: Breakfast - Second Meal $3.75; Lunch - Second Entree - $4.40 and Second Meal - $5.75; regardless of Free/Reduced Lunch status, EVERYONE who takes a second entree and/or meal will be charged these amounts.
Wickedly Wonderful PTA Updates
PTA Board Elections Coming Soon
It’s time to begin planning for next year’s PTA Board. All four officer positions will be open, and we would love to see new faces step into leadership roles.
Here’s a quick look at what each position involves:
President
Leads PTA meetings, works closely with the school administration, helps guide overall planning for events and initiatives, and keeps everything moving forward.
Vice President
Supports the President and helps coordinate events and committees. This role often oversees key programs, and steps in wherever support is needed.
Treasurer
Manages the PTA budget, tracks income and expenses, and ensures financial reporting stays organized and transparent.
Secretary
Records meeting minutes, manages our social media, and helps keep communication clear and consistent.
Being on the PTA Board is a meaningful way to support our school community, and help shape the experiences our students enjoy each year. If you’re curious, we encourage you to reach out with questions.
Thank you, as always, for supporting Welch and the PTA!
Bread Tags
Welch will be collecting plastic bread tags to donate to SCARCE for recycling in partnership with Danielle Cares for Chairs. Plastic bread tags are those square clips commonly used to seal bags around a loaf of bread, bagels, or even produce. If you are trying to reduce your plastic use, they can be hard to avoid. Further, plastic bread tags are not recyclable in your curbside recycling bin. Therefore, millions end up in landfills each year, just adding to our disposable plastic problem. it takes about 260,000 bread tags to purchase a basic wheelchair – so every bread tag counts! We will have collection bags at Welch, so please feel free to bring yours in or send them with your child!
