KSD 140 Connection
May 2026
As we close another successful school year, I want to thank you for your continued support and share a few quick district updates.
School Improvement Projects
I am happy to report that renovation projects at Fernway and Keller elementary schools remain on schedule and within budget, with both schools expected to be ready to welcome students for the start of the 2026–27 school year in August.
The Fernway project includes infrastructure upgrades to support HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and data systems, along with a new gymnasium and improvements to the commons, media center, main entrance, school office, restrooms, and select classrooms.
At Keller, the renovations include additional classrooms and restrooms, relocated play areas, and a dedicated space for bus rider arrival and dismissal.
Additionally, new student desks and chairs will be installed throughout Fernway and Millennium elementary schools over the summer.
Spring Parent Survey
In early May, we invited parents and guardians to complete our Spring Perception Survey and share feedback about school climate, instruction, leadership, and communication across the district. We were encouraged by the positive feedback and are grateful to everyone who took the time to participate. Your responses help us celebrate what is working well while also identifying opportunities for continued growth and improvement. Celebrating the Class of 2026
It is hard to believe it is time to say goodbye to the Class of 2026. Over the years, we have watched these students grow into confident, capable young adults, and we could not be prouder of all they have accomplished. Congratulations to our eighth-grade graduates! We wish them all the best as they begin their high school journey.
Honoring Our Retirees
We also want to recognize and thank several retiring staff members for their years of commitment and service to our schools. Their contributions have made a meaningful difference in our community, and we wish them a happy and well-deserved retirement.
On behalf of the Board of Education and the administrative team, thank you for your ongoing support of Kirby School District 140. I hope you and your family enjoy a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved summer break.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dan Callaghan
Superintendent

Millennium Celebrates Falcon Pride
Each month, one of District 140’s seven schools is highlighted at a Board of Education meeting, giving students and staff a chance to share what makes their school community unique. In May, Principal Juli Cosentino presented a video celebrating student experiences at Millennium. The presentation concluded with a juggling demonstration, showcasing a longtime Falcon tradition enjoyed by students and their families.
Students Participate in Trout Release Project
Students from Grissom and Prairie View middle schools recently participated in a hands-on environmental science project through a partnership with the Oak Brook Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Select eighth-grade students raised rainbow trout from eggs to fingerlings in classroom tanks while monitoring water quality and caring for the fish daily. The project also included guest speakers and concluded with a field trip to Kankakee River State Park, where students released trout, tested stream water quality, and surveyed aquatic invertebrates, all connected to their classroom learning.
Bannes Elementary Honors Community’s First Responders
Local and federal law enforcement officers and firefighters celebrated First Responders’ Day with Bannes students and staff on Thursday, May 14. In keeping with the school’s annual tradition, a complimentary breakfast and lunch were provided to first responders to show appreciation for all they do to keep our community safe. Students, staff, and their honored guests enjoyed a meal and numerous activities together throughout the day.
