Discuss

This article begins a series of posts, but the "meat" of this article is Aguilar's inclusion of the Mind the Gap framework.

This framework can be used in analyzing the coaching request you've received, and for analyzing your response to that request.

How have you previously handled an encounter with a perfectionist teacher?

What do you think about the Mind the Gap framework? Explain your reasoning.

What might happen if you used the Mind the Gap framework for all coaching requests?

Create a T chart.

On the left side, list 3 or 4 recent coaching requests or PD sessions. For each:

  • What was the request/topic?
  • Was this a single event or multiple interactions?
  • What was the goal?
  • Do you see evidence of the goal being achieved?

On the right side of the T chart, analyze each request/session.

  • Is there a specific gap that seems to emerge for this request/session?
  • What would help the teacher(s) involved if the goal wasn't achieved?
  • What do you notice about yourself from the gap frmework?
