πŸ’¬ A Message from Mr. Chase

Hello Booth Hill families,

It's been a full week here! Yesterday we welcomed our Superintendent, Dr. Semmel, for learning walks through our classrooms. Our students and teachers showed off the great work happening every day! Today our kindergarten, first, and third grade teams are spending the day together as grade levels with our reading and math specialists and me, studying our fall assessment data and sharpening instruction. This morning we celebrated our summer readers with a visit from the First Selectman Tesoro!

Thank you, as always, for partnering with us. Enjoy the long weekend! We'll see everyone back on Tuesday.

Best,

Kevin Chase

Principal 🐾

Around the School Around the School

⚾ 4th Grade Hits a Home Run!

This week, fourth graders wrapped up their first Bookworms novel, A Strong Right Arm by Michelle Y. Green! Students learned about Mamie β€œPeanut” Johnson and how her courage, determination, and perseverance helped her overcome challenges to pursue her dream of playing professional baseball. To celebrate, students enjoyed a fun game of Wiffle ball and created a β€œPitching Perseverance Wall,” sharing challenges they have faced and how they overcame them, just like Mamie! Even Dr. Goose joined in on the fun, getting into the baseball spirit and celebrating alongside our fourth graders!

Booth Hill's biggest fundraiser of the year is the Dance-A-Thon β€” with a goal of $30,000! Every dollar goes straight back to our students and teachers, supporting field trips, assemblies, art supplies, author visits, the Angel Fund, Kindness Week, and more. πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ’» Chromebook Usage Update

Promoting Purposeful & Intentional Technology Use

As part of Trumbull Public Schools’ goal to promote the intentional and healthy use of technology, we are updating our web browsing settings for all K-8 student Chromebooks starting October 1st.

To help students stay focused, safe, and engaged, student devices will be transitioning to an "Approved List Only" (Whitelist) model over the next few days. This means students will only be able to access specific, district-approved educational websites and learning platforms needed for their schoolwork.

What parents should know:

  • Focus on Learning: Removing open web browsing reduces digital distractions, helps prevent online fatigue, and supports focused digital habits.
  • Core Tools Remain Active: Students will still have full access to essential tools like Google Classroom, Google Workspace (Docs, Slides), approved research databases, and educational software used in their courses.
  • Homework: If a student is not able to complete a teacher’s assignment at home due to a restriction, they should notify the teacher the next day.

We appreciate your partnership in supporting balanced screen time and helping our students thrive both online and offline! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child’s school.

πŸ“š Battle of the Books is Back!

Students in grades 3–5 will have the opportunity to participate in our exciting Battle of the Books competition! Sign-ups will take place during library classes over the next couple of weeks. Students who choose to participate will receive a Battle folder with additional information and details to take home next month. We are especially excited to begin this tradition with our 3rd graders this year! We can’t wait to see our Bobcats reading, working together, and putting their book knowledge to the test! Please reach out to Mrs. Armstrong with any questions.

Plasko’s Harvest Festival

Looking for some fall fun this weekend? Stop by Plasko’s Harvest Festival on Sunday, October 11th, from 11 AM–6 PM in Trumbull! Enjoy vendors, games, a corn maze, hayrides, and more! Be sure to stop by and say hello to Mrs. Sweeney, who will be selling her handmade press-on nail sets!

Safety

Car Drop-off and Pick-Up

Please stay as far to the right side of the entry when arriving for morning drop-off. Staff need to be able to pass by to enter the parking lot.

To help our dismissal run smoothly and safely for all students, please be in the back car pick-up line by 3:20 PM if you are picking up by car. We’ve noticed arrival times are gradually getting later, which delays the line and impacts everyone’s afternoon schedule. Being in line by 3:20 allows us to dismiss students efficiently and keeps the process calm and predictable for children.

Please turn off your vehicle if you arrive early to drop-off or pick-up. Idling is prohibited.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep dismissal safe and smooth!

2026-2027 Family Handbook

Please remember to take time to read our handbook.

Labeling Items

We encourage families to label items such as water bottles, lunch boxes and outerwear with a name so that if they are misplaced they can be returned quickly to students.

A Note from the Transportation Department

The start of school is a busy time of year and our priority is that all students are assigned a bus stop location before the start of school and that stop concerns are resolved quickly. This is a reminder that all requests for bus stop changes or bus stop concerns need to be submitted online using our Transportation Action Report found by clicking the hyperlink CLICK HERE. For immediate assistance, you can reach the Transportation Department at 203-452-4321.

Lost Items on the Bus: Any items left on the bus are brought to the Bus Depot at the end of the day. Please call Durham at 203-261-4329.

Parent pick-up: Visitors are prohibited from entering school grounds during school hours without checking in at the main office. The earliest that we authorize cars to enter cueing for pick-up is 2:45. Additionally, small barricades have been placed right near the storage trailer to prevent cars from traveling any further until Mr. T moves them at 3:00. Do not attempt to turn left off of Booth Hill Road into the school driveway. Proceed straight and join at the end of the line. This will allow us to maintain a safe and secure environment for our children.
