Principal Message

Irving Families -

Thank you to everyone who came out to our PTO meeting last week! Our PTO is an amazing organization that spends countless hours helping make Irving a better place for our students and staff. We are incredibly grateful for everything they do. If you have not joined the PTO yet this year, please click THIS LINK to sign up and support our school!

This week, we started to capitalize on all of the work our teachers and students did during the first week of school establishing routines, procedures, and expectations. Classrooms throughout Irving are now jumping into learning, and it has been great to see our students settling in and getting to work.

Next week is Curriculum Night, and we hope all of our families can join us at 6:00 PM on Thursday, September 3rd. Curriculum Night is a great opportunity to visit your child's classroom, hear directly from their teacher, and learn more about the academic experience and expectations for the school year.

Due to scheduling conflicts, two classrooms will hold Curriculum Night on a different evening. Families with students in 1T or 3O should attend at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 2nd. Those teachers will meet families at the front office at 5:00 PM and bring them to their classrooms for the session.

Last year, we encouraged Curriculum Night attendance by allowing students to bring their iPads home afterward. We will not be offering that incentive this year. Instead, we simply hope families will make it a priority to attend. Curriculum Night is an important opportunity to learn about what your child will be working on this year and how we can work together to support their success.

We hope to see everyone next week!

We are happy to share that Libby, Mrs. Toolan’s professional therapy dog, will be returning to Irving this school year! Libby is a beloved member of our school community, offering calm, comfort, and support to students throughout the building.

To ensure it’s safe for her to visit your child’s classroom, District guidelines require parent/guardian permission for students to interact with animals at school. This is because some students may have allergies, asthma, or other health needs.

Libby will be on campus regularly and may visit classrooms during the year. Please complete this PERMISSION FORM if your child can participate in activities with Libby.

Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures

Irving School experiences heavy traffic during arrival and dismissal. Parking is limited, and our streets are crowded with students and adults. To ensure a safe and efficient drop-off or pick-up, please arrive early.

Please refer to the photo below for our drop-off/pick-up procedures. It is essential that families use the 35th Street bus lane or park legally and walk their students to their designated lines. Always cross the street at marked crosswalks with a crossing guard. Students must never cross in the middle of the street.

When using the bus lane for drop-off/pick-up, please follow these guidelines:

  • Direction: 35th Street is one-way eastbound from Clinton Avenue to Kenilworth Avenue. Please obey all signs and markings.
  • Drop-off/Pick-up: Pull into the furthest available eastbound spot on 35th Street to allow students to exit or enter the vehicle.
  • Student Readiness: Students should be ready to exit or enter the car immediately upon stopping.
  • Walking Students: Adults cannot park in the bus lane to walk students to their lines. Please park your vehicle if you need to accompany your child.
  • School Buses: School buses load and unload at the west end of the drop-off/pick-up area.

Thank you for your cooperation in following these procedures. Your efforts help keep all our students and families safe.
