CSD Weekly Update: March 6 2026

Read Across America Week at CSD!
What a week! As Read Across America Week comes to a close, we want to send a massive thank you to everyone who celebrated with us across the district! In the words of Dr. Seuss, "The more that you read, the more things you will know."
Scholastic Book Fairs were held throughout the district. Seeing the excitement on our students' faces as they picked out their next great adventure was the highlight of our week. Keep turning those pages, Centennial!
Exploring Future Pathways: College Fair a Success!
We had a fantastic turnout at our College Fair at William Tennent High School last night! Over 75 colleges, universities, trade schools, and branches of the US Military were in attendance, providing our students with an invaluable opportunity to speak directly with representatives and explore diverse post-secondary options.
Prior to the College Fair, we hosted a presentation for parents of Grade 11 students in the auditorium. This presentation focused on the post-secondary process and how parents can support students from start to finish. Parents and students received a timeline and information to help them explore career options and plan for post-secondary education.
Thank you to all the representatives, students, and parents who made last night such a success!
Log College: Junior Model UN
Log College’s Jr. Model UN Club attended their first preparatory conference on March 4th, at Temple University. The goal of Jr. Model UN is to work collaboratively to propose recommendations on solving two of the major world issues from the viewpoint of their assigned nation. Student delegates received badges that included their names, country (Japan), topics (Ensuring Healthy Oceans), and (Ending Hunger For All).
Upon arrival, students were split into small conference rooms based on their badges. Once in the conference rooms, delegates introduced themselves to delegates from other schools, learned conference etiquette, and group norms.
As the morning rolled on, delegates identified the parts of a resolution paper and reviewed sustainable development goals. In addition, delegates practiced creating resolutions using their research and provided Jr. UN Vocabulary.
Delegates will meet a few times to write, revise, and edit their resolutions that they will present at their final conference in May at Temple University.

Virtual Learning at Centennial School District!
Student Attendance and Truancy
A new state law, Pennsylvania Act 47 of 2025, has updated the PA Public School Code regarding student attendance and truancy. The Act updates attendance rules, especially for cyber charter schools, by defining how they must track attendance for both live (synchronous) and self-paced (asynchronous) instruction. The law also strengthens truancy procedures, which now include new requirements for notices to parents, mandatory use of a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) for habitually truant students, and a restriction on habitually truant students transferring to a cyber charter school without a judge's approval.
Although Act 47 does not require a change to the Centennial School Board Attendance Policy (CSD School Board Policy 204), this is an ideal opportunity to review important terminology and procedures regarding student attendance.
General Attendance Information:
In CSD, all students must attend school every day unless they have a lawful (excused) reason for being absent. “Truant” or “truancy” is the legal term to describe a student who is absent from school without lawful permission.
Attention, Middle School Families!
Starting on Monday 3/9, middle school student email accounts will be limited to internal CSD email only. Students can continue to email teachers and classmates to work collaboratively on schoolwork but will not be able to email external (non-CSD) accounts.
