Weekly Update

Dear Elmore School Families,

We had another busy and engaging week at the elmore School. It's hard to believe we have completed our 30th week for the school year. With just one more week to go until our April break, we will soon be into our final stretch of the school year.

This week the third graders completed the ELA portion of the VTCAP (state assessment), which is split up into 3 sessions. I want to commend them for their hard work and effort on these assessments.

We also had our annual school concert this week! We spent time on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with final rehearsals which involved not only practicing our songs, but getting on and off the stage, and stage presence. Everyone did a great job performing to a packed town hall! Thank you all for attending our concert and for the delicious refreshments everyone enjoyed after the concert.

On Thursday we read a Scholastic new about using recycled materials to create sculptures. Then the students planned a art project using recyclable materials. Student work either alone or with a partner to create sculptures.

On Friday morning we had a wonderful morning at ECO! The sun was shining at our arrival and the temperature was pleasant. Our focus this week was on amphibians (salamanders) and mapping sources of water in the forest around our outdoor classroom. Students and teachers had a enjoyed exploring the forest beyond our campsite both during our main lesson and forest choice.

On Friday afternoon students had a "reading reward", and were treated to a movie and popcorn. They watched Because of Winn Dixie as we just finished reading this book as a read aloud. It's a wonderful story written by Kate Dicamillo, and the movie is equally well done.

Next week we will have our last "spirit week" of the year.

  • Wednesday: "Wacky Wednesday"
  • Thursday: Hat day
  • Friday: Elmore School Spirit Day

We will have school Hot Lunch net week on Monday and Wednesday. Please submit your lunch orders by Sunday at 6:00 pm

Have a wonderful weekend

In gratitude,

Diane Nicholls
