Linworth "Newt Loot" Direct Drive

Fundraising is an important part of all non-profit groups that are working to support their community! Our Parent Board, which includes all of you, does a lot to support the Linworth community. This year we’ve provided a t-shirt to every student, provided back to school lunches to students and staff, hosted a get together for parents, and we have more in the works!

Parent Board Officers surveyed Linworth families to gather feedback about things like events, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising. 74.2% of responders indicated that they’d like to do a direct drive, which is a one time optional donation, in lieu of other fundraisers. Our fundraiser last year was hugely successful and we have opted to do it again this year.

A link to your students fundraising page has been emailed to parent/ guardian accounts! We ask that you share this with family, friends, and even workplaces to whatever degree you are comfortable. No donation is too small, and we appreciate anything that you are able to contribute.

Thank you for your support!

Chili Supper

Over 40 years, Linworth hosts the annual Chili Supper the Tuesday night before Thanksgiving. At this event, all Linworth families, as well as staff and alumni, are invited for a gigantic pot luck dinner.

When: Tuesday, November 24, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

What We Do: We’ll have bowls, plates, utensils, cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, and volunteer-provided rice, muffins, pots of various chili types, including a vegetarian option, and drinks.

What You Do: 1. Show up and enjoy some chili.

2. Bring a shareable side dish (A-L) or dessert (M-Z).

3. Volunteer here if you’d like.

Why: Thanksgiving is a great time for family and friends to get together. Many graduates are in town. At Linworth, COMMUNITY is not just the people in the building daily, but families, alumni, and neighbors. The annual Chili Supper is a time to celebrate all of the joys of COMMUNITY.

That night, there will be voluntary donation cans and QR codes for people who would like to contribute to Parent Board, the Linworth parent organization for all families. There is also an online Silent Auction to support the Experience Fund, which helps finance experiential opportunities, like Walkabout.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Finch Sullivan directly or by email at ls1006@wscloud.org.

Phyte Club Update

It was a great week in the garden this week! We planted 400 cloves of garlic, set up Compost Lane, and sent delegates to Teen Eco Summit at the Columbus Zoo to gather information for our next project. Phyte Club will not meet this week because of HaGPIE, so go have a good time and we will meet up again next week where we will talk about our Teen Eco Summit project and our winter goals.

Phyte Club meets on Mondays after school from 3:15 - 4:15, and students can work on projects during their open blocks at school. Everyone is welcome! Ask Monica and she will help you get connected.

Seniors, Part Deux: The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form is ready for you to complete!

Colleges and career schools use the FAFSA form to determine how much financial aid you're eligible to receive, which could include grants, scholarships, work-study funds, and loans. You must apply for aid every year. This is a friendly reminder for seniors planning to attend college/career school to complete this free financial aid application, which became available in September, with your guardian: Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Portrait of a Learner Statement of the Week

I maintain my focus and actively encourage others to stay engaged and on task during group work.

(Adaptable Leader)

The statement, "I maintain my focus and actively encourage others to stay engaged and on task during group work," describes a key leadership and collaboration skill. It means you not only hold yourself accountable by resisting distractions and keeping your personal effort high, but you also take initiative to manage the group's dynamics. When others start drifting off or getting distracted, you step in politely—perhaps by bringing the conversation back to the task or suggesting a focused next step—to keep the entire team productive and on schedule. This role is vital for success in any collaborative effort, as it ensures the group achieves its goal efficiently by leveraging the collective focus of everyone involved.

Linworth Experiential Program

The Linworth Experiential Program opened in the fall of 1973 as an option for high school students in the Worthington City Schools. The purpose of the program is to more fully engage students in their educations by creating choices and having students make choices, placing the students in situations requiring higher levels of responsibility and having students learn and apply what they have learned through experiential education.
