Students recognized for finishing the year strong.

What does it mean to finish strong?

To complete a task, goal or period of time with sustained effort and determination, leaving a positive and impactful impression.

Kindergarten:

From Mrs. Nasinec: Tariq W. Tariq started the year in our class in January. It was clear that our class was a head of where he had come from. Tariq worked hard and showed grit and determination to not only catch up, but exceed some standards in kindergarten. Tariq is kind, respectful, and resilient. Great job, buddy! I am so proud of you.

From Ms. Ketner: Waylon S. For overcoming many obstacles this year and working hard to be a strong independent learner.

From Mrs. Morse: Aria C. Aria has shown incredible perseverance in learning to read, tackling every challenge with grit and enthusiasm. Her dedication and hard work have helped her become a confident reader, ready for new adventures in learning!

From Mrs. Cruz: Sereybot K. In the beginning of the school year, he had some difficulties with attending school due to mixed emotions with starting school and being away from family. He would refuse, try to run back out, and cry. Sereybot now attends school willingly and joyfully, with a

greeting and a smile on his face. The joy on his face brings light to my day.

From Mrs. McGowan: Thomas M. In the fall, was able to name 5 capital and lowercase letters on the Aimsweb Benchmark Assessment. Thomas worked so hard all year, stayed focused, practiced at home and at school and always participated in his learning. On the Spring Benchmark Assessment, Thomas was able to name 50 capital and lowercase letters in a one-minute timing on the Letter Naming Fluency! Thomas never gave up. Way to go!

From Mrs. Luebke: Owen A. Owen has made a lot of growth this year. He came in to kindergarten with knowing a few of his letter sounds. He was dedicated and worked hard, both at home and at school, to learn his letter sounds. He worked hard each day and eventually learned to blend words with ease. He had a great attitude about learning! Owen became a leader in his reading group and in the class.

First grade

From Mrs. Ray: Aya B. I had her in math group.

From Ms. Shanon: Ren L . Ren has come so far this year going through the lunch line. He now communicates with us and even grabs the items he wants for lunch himself. He struggled with that last year and couldn't communicate either. The way he comes through the line with confidence amongst his peers puts a smile on our faces every single time. Way to go Ren!!

From Mrs. Knox: Jayden N. He has grown in so many ways. He uses strong coping strategies to help him when he's feeling sad or mad. He works hard to be safe at school. I’m super proud of his growth this year.

From Ms. Ramos: Adrian R. For tremendous growth over the year.

From Ms. Robbins: Aaliyah L. I am so proud of the effort and growth you made this year! Using your tools to help regulate and communicating your needs responsibly. I hope you are proud of you!

Second grade

From Mrs. Bartel: Elyse G. She has made great strides this year, particularly in reading fluency and comprehension. In addition to her progress in reading, her confidence and ability to persevere has grown in all other academic areas. She approaches tasks with a positive attitude and is engaged in learning during instruction. Elyse is an outstanding example of the progress I hope to see in all learners.

From Mrs. Warren: Olivia H. I had her all year in Math group at the end of the day. Some days were harder than others, but, she worked hard and never gave up. I enjoyed working with her and getting to know her.

From Mrs. Fayth: Beau H. in 2nd grade for always showing up to group with a positive attitude.

From Ms. Isaacson and Ms. Caldera: Essence P. Essence has shown so much growth that both Ms. Caldera and myself want to recognize. She continually strives to be the best Essence she can be at school and for those around her.

From Ms. Glover: Marcel R. He has made choices to be more cooperative, safe, and respectful.

From Ms. Bishop: Courtney F. Courtney stayed strong until the end because of her unwavering spirit and deep resilience. No matter the challenges she faced, she held onto her strength, not just for herself, but for the people who loved her. Even in the hardest moments, she remained a source of hope, love, and inspiration. That strength defined her—right to the very end.

From Mrs. Curtiss: Ketzaly H. You’ve made incredible growth in your communication. It’s been such a joy to watch you share your thoughts clearly, expressing yourself with others in new ways. Your progress has been amazing. I am so proud of how far you’ve come.

Third grade

From Ms. Becky: Dante B. When I first started interacting with Dante he was nonverbal with me. As the year went on he became more interactive with me. Giving me high fives in the morning to even saying "morning" to me every morning. He has become my highlight in the morning. I look forward to our interactions every day. He also can find his way to class without assistance. He has truly grown in so many ways he is just a treasure in my eyes.

From Mrs. Sandoval: Jayc A. He’s shown incredible growth in both behavior and perseverance. He’s worked hard to make better choices, stay focused, and push through challenges—even when things weren’t easy. I’m really proud of the progress he’s made this year

From Mrs. Yevchev: Violet R. I chose Violet for her perseverance and not giving up when things are hard.

From Mrs. Sanderson: Phoebe R. She is always kind and compassionate to others. She is a leader in library by always being a great example even when facing challenges.

From Ms. Shadlow: Meilany G.. She has grown more confident and is enthusiastic to share her work with the class, especially in math.

From Mrs. Johnson: Etta N. Etta started the year constantly saying what she couldn't do, especially in math.. Now she says, "I'm getting it or I'm going to keep trying!" And is asking for extra work to keep on practicing. From tears of frustration to tears of joy! Im so proud of you, Etta!

From Mrs. Brandt: Joey R. Joey came to Collins as a new student this year. He is a wonderful student always ready to do whatever you ask. We worked on quotation marks in writing. He struggled and continued to learn without getting frustrated. I can't wait to see what he does as a fifth grader. Great job Joey.

From Miss Dandridge: Angel L. Angel has been a self-manager all year long-- right to the very end! He takes his work seriously, embraces every new challenge with a growth mindset, and has a positive attitude that is infectious. He sets a great example as a guiding light for those around him.

Fifth grade

From Mrs. McKee: Owen R. I remember how in my first few years of teaching he was not a fan of art in general and struggled to complete work, but now he is one of the most focused and creative artists I know. He is resourceful and when he makes mistakes he finds ways to turn it into a part of his work. I am very proud of how much he has grown.

From Mrs. Walton: Brailind G. Brailind has overcome feelings of doubt in himself and has turned that around to positive successful feelings.

From Mr. Schultz: Riley W. Riley started the year a bit shy, but really gained confidence as the year went on, and was part of a small group of singers who performed a song for the school at an assembly. She has a great voice and I'm excited to see where she goes in life!

From Mrs. Squier: Riley W. for positivity, perseverance, and for having a heart of gold. She will be missed!

From Mr. Burnett: Claudia M. Claudia set an example of our class as a student who put their best effort into every subject, every day. Congratulations Claudia and keep up the good work in middle school.

From Ms. Schramm: Kevin P. He did not speak a word of English when he started kindergarten and finished 5th grade with 4s on all his SBAs. He is all-around a brilliant and kind person.

From Mrs. Poole: Talanoa F.. Worked hard all year to improve his writing and it paid off. His SBA scores and his report card grades are just proof of this hard work. Talanoa is also a really good student because he has show all the core traits that have been celebrated each month: He follows the 4 Bes, he is kind, includes others, helps others, has grit and keeps trying, shows great sportsmanship, and has built good friendships.

From Ms. Kacy: Claudia M. for her improved attendance.

From Ms. Jackson: Aiden L. I am nominating him because even though he struggles sometimes he still perseveres despite his hardships. He has grown so much not just this year but in the last few years. I am very proud of the growth that he has achieved and started to believe in himself!
