SDPBC Character Education Program SDPBC Character Education Program

zoom_out_map

In 2023, The Florida State Board of Education approved Resiliency Education Standards for the State of Florida. This guide provides a framework for the implementation of a Character Education Program to meet the requirements for Character Education as outlined in 1003.42(s).

The School District of Palm Beach County believes that the foundation of character education is the development of positive character qualities. Students who develop positive character qualities will in turn exhibit many of the outcomes envisioned by the Character Education statute.

In the School District of Palm Beach County, we use seven pillars to organize our character education program which align to State Standards and Statute.

1. Demonstrating Respect

2. Being Responsible

3. Being Generous & Helpful (Charity)

4. Being Honest and Trustworthy

5. Showing Kindness and Empathy

6. Demonstrating Tolerance

7. Cooperating and Demonstrating Citizenship

Our Character Education Program breaks up the pillars by month and includes weekly

discussion topics which are shared through the Blue Marlin Insider.

Tardy Policy

We at Conniston Middle School are concerned about your academic achievement as well as safety. Arriving on time for class is essential to your academic success. When the bell rings students need to be ready to learn. For your safety, we will provide maximum supervision during class changes and other breaks in the class schedule. We do not wish to compromise student safety when students arrive late to class.

Therefore:

  • Students will be considered “on time” for class if their entire body is in the classroom when the bell rings.

  • Students will be allowed (3) documented tardies by the teacher or student conductor before disciplinary action is taken.

  • Disciplinary action is taken after the third (3) documented tardy.

  • Teachers will only allow students into class with a tardy receipt from the student conductor. The student conductor will track and document tardy violations.

  • Teachers agree NOT to hold students after the bell without first notifying the receiving teacher.

CONSEQUENCES FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE TARDY:

On the forth (4) tardy,

A) the teachers will be responsible for notifying the parents, notifying the grade level office by email.

B) the grade level administrator will assign the student a lunch detention, administrative detention or ISS.

C) If the tardiness is repetitive, write a referral, and the grade level administrator will proceed with further action.

BEST PRACTICES:

  1. Teachers are required to be at their classroom door and close it when the bell rings. All doors are to be locked at all times.

  2. Students should be in their seats and ready to begin class when the bell rings.

  3. Structured warm-up activities (i.e. F.A.S.T. lesson based, “Do Now’s”) must be ready when the bell rings.
