Mr. Tim Wagner

Dear Pettigrew Elementary Families,

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of Pettigrew Elementary! I will begin my principalship at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year. My name is Tim Wagner, and I am honored to join this incredible school community. I come to Pettigrew from Terry Redlin Elementary, where I have been serving as assistant principal.

I’ve been in education for 22 years—10 of those as an elementary classroom teacher, and the last 12 as a school administrator, including roles as principal, assistant principal, and dean of students.

Throughout my career, my passion has always been helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe and supportive environment.

One area I’m especially passionate about is literacy. I firmly believe that reading is the foundation for all learning, and I am committed to working alongside our staff and families to ensure every student at Pettigrew becomes a confident, capable, and proficient reader. Helping children discover the joy and power of reading is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.

I want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding leadership that Mr. D. has provided to Pettigrew over the years. His dedication and care have left a lasting impact on this school, and I am truly grateful for the foundation he has built. I am excited to carry that work forward and contribute to the continued success of this amazing school.

On a more personal note, my wife Rebecca and I are the proud parents of four wonderful children: Ben (9), Luke (7), Emily (5), and Lucy (almost 3). As a parent myself, I understand the trust you place in our school team every day—and I am committed to ensuring your children feel valued, inspired, and empowered to succeed.

As I begin this journey at Pettigrew, I would love to start getting to know our families. If you’re willing, please feel free to email me at timothy.wagner@k12.sd.us a photo of your family and a little bit about yourselves. I look forward to building strong connections with each of you and working together to make this a great year for our Panthers!

I am truly looking forward to joining the incredible Pettigrew school community—including our dedicated teachers, supportive staff, students, and families. Let’s make it the best year together! Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you in the Fall!
