The Jayhawk Journal
Week of October 19th, 2026
Principal's Corner
One thing that you will learn from me is that Fall is my favorite time of the year. It's returning back to the routine and schedule of school, it's the sweatshirt weather, it's a Sunny, cooler day, and it's catching a local football game with your family. Speaking of which, I am so proud of the turn-out that we had for the CHS Football Game last Friday. As you can see from the picture attached, we look forward to keeping this tradition moving forward.
This week also began SGI here at Johnson. What is SGI? SGI is small group instruction. This is a committed hour in which all students will receive interventions that they may need. Teachers are using data to pull small groups, reteaching skills, and providing tailored learning to your students to meet their needs, wherever they may be at. This time is also dedicated to groups needed outside of the classroom. This could be SEL (Social-Emotional Learning), help in Title I, or groups focused on specific skills. These will run about 7 weeks throughout the year. At the end of each cycle, we look over data, discuss a plan, and make adjustments throughout the year.
We are looking forward to the Color Run this Friday, the 23rd. We have attached a map for Friday, along with a sign-up sheet if you would like to come as a spectator. Please use the QR code if you would like to watch. We will also send out all the information as a stand-alone email earlier this week. We are already 74% towards to our goal, keep going Jayhawks! Just a reminder that if we hit our goal, there will be an assembly where students get to throw pies at Mr. Taub and Mr. Bublitz!
Just a reminder that we have attached the family survey below here in the Journal. This data provides great feedback on how you view our school. The survey will be open until the 26th. We look forward to hearing from you, thank you for taking the time to do so.
We will also have our official Spirit Week the week of October 26th-30th. Please see the flyer below to help plan for those dates. We always enjoy Spirit Weeks here at Johnson!
Have a wonderful weekend,
- Mr. Traub

Johnson Color Run - Friday, October 23rd
Color Run Update
This week we have a special challenge from our PTA. Whatever class raises the most money between Wednesday the 14th and Wednesday the 21st, every student in that class will earn a raffle ticket to earn some prizes after our Color Run. Let's keep the momentum going!
We have already raised over $14,900 so far, and we are 74% towards our goal, way to go Jayhawks! Our goal is to get to $20,000 by October 26th. Your students will be able to earn prizes both individually and as a class as they continue to raise money. If we hit our goal of $20,000, then Mr. Traub and Mr. Bublitz will participate in a school assembly where pies will be thrown at them! Let's do this Johnson Community!
Johnson Color Run
Johnson Family Survey
Each year after conferences, we give each family a survey to help collect feedback for our school. We will use our surveys to help see how you view your experiences here at Johnson. We are committed to making this a place to be for all families and their students. Please take the time to fill out this survey. It will remain open until October 26th. We will keep it here in the Jayhawk Journal until the survey is closed.
Thank you for your commitment to our school and our community!
- Mr. Traub and Mr. Bublitz
PBIS Updates
This Week Focused on Being an Upstander!
This week we focused on being an Upstander. This month we focus on anti-bullying, and we teach students to stick up for one another to help out. An upstander knows how to help out when they see another student not being treated the way they should be. Take the time to talk to your student about how to prevent bullying and stand up for one another. Please see the attached matrix to go over SOARing expectations for all aspects of the building.

Early Pick-Up Procedures
As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, please be reminded that a valid physical photo ID (such as a driver’s license or state ID) is required for anyone picking up a student. Starting immediately, our staff will be strictly enforcing this verification process every single time a student is signed out, without exception. Even if our team recognizes you, this uniform safety measure ensures we maintain the highest level of security for all children in our care. We kindly ask that you have your ID ready upon arrival to help keep the dismissal process moving smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation and partnership in keeping our school community safe!
I-Chat Forms Needed for Volunteers

Emergency Card Information
It is required that each family review the emergency contact information that is on file at Johnson. You can view this information in parent connect. Why? in the event of an emergency, sick child, severe weather, we may need to reach you. The process to verify your emergency contact information is correct is simple. Simply log into Parent Connect and follow the prompts.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Times
Students cannot be dropped off for school in the morning prior to 8:15am. This is when the doors open for breakfast and when staff is available to supervise students. Prior to this time, all school doors are locked. Students are not to be left unattended, arrangements must be made. Also, dismissal is at 3:30pm daily and at 11:45am on half days. It is required that all students who are picked up in the car loop be picked up no later than 3:45pm. Staff is not available to supervise students beyond that time. The district offers a SACC program for those students that cannot be picked up by 3:45pm. Please contact SACC at (734)744-2966 to make arrangements.
Medications At School
Oftentimes a student will come to the office with a medical need. The office staff is able to dispense medication as needed as long as the medication is: 1) Delivered to school by a parent in the original unopened package or prescription container, {NO MEDICATION can be brought to school by students} 2) As long as there is an individual, signed medical authorization on file for each medication {form available in the office and online} Medication includes but is not limited to cough drops, aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, prescription drugs, creams, lotions, vitamins, inhalers, EpiPens, etc.… We cannot administer any medication that is not listed on file in the office. Please reach out to Amy Dimmer in the office to set up a time to bring in medications and to review your student’s medical needs when they are in the building.
