Parking Lot Etiquette and Procedures

Parents, please be patient and respectful as you pick up and drop off your child.

Here at Whitney, we have children demonstrating leadership in safety patrol positions. At times patrol students or staff may ask you to follow certain rules you may not agree with. Please do not take it personal. They are doing their jobs. Our goal is to keep you, your children, and everyone safe.

If you do not agree with a procedure, please reach out to a building administrator before addressing staff or a patrol student. All of our schools in the district have procedures, protocols, and specific ways the parking lots function based on their designs and safety plans. If you have a question, feel free to contact us via ParentSquare, phone or email.

If you have a meeting scheduled after school please let the parking staff know when you arrive and they may be able to help you get a parking spot.

BASIC REMINDERS FOUND BELOW:

Driving in our Parking Lot

Please remember to drive with caution as you enter and exit our school parking lots. The traffic flow at all schools is slow and that is the safest for our kids.

We have many children and families crossing the streets around our school campus. Please try not to be in a hurry when dropping off and picking up your children.

Parents should not park in the parking spots between the parking lot entry and exit or on the Southwest side unless they have a meeting scheduled.

*You must slow down and drive with caution.

Drop off

Students should NOT be dropped off earlier than 8:15 am. We do not have supervision before this time.

Crosswalks

Please remember to always use the crosswalks. It becomes unsafe when children and parents walk in and out of cars in the parking lot. The crosswalks are the safest areas to use when walking in the parking lot. Patrol students help with crossing before and after school at the light on Nob Hill, 44th and Nob Hill, and on 44th by Wilson Middle school. We recommend not using the crosswalks at our parking lot entrance or exit.

No Unattended Vehicles in the Drop Off Lanes

Please remember, there is no parking in the pick up/drop off lane, so please pull all the way up to the front of the drop off lane (by the front of the school), pick up/drop off your child (parents/drivers need to stay in the car) and then you may keep moving.

Remember that both lanes turn right as you leave the parking lot.

Walking (Flagpole Pickup)

If you walk to pick up your child, you must wait in the grass area by the flag pole. Do not block the sidewalk. If you see your child come out please notify a nearby staff member and wait patiently for your child to come to you.

Wilson Walkers

You can sign up HERE to pick your child up in the Wilson Parking Lot on the Northside of campus. Students will start walking from Whitney to the middle school around 3:35 PM with adult supervision. Any students that have not been picked up by 3:45 PM will return to Whitney. This is not recommended for kindergarteners and 1st graders unless they have an older sibling. If you are picking up at Wilson please get out of your vehicle and meet your child near the gate. It becomes unsafe when children are walk in and out of cars in the parking lot without an adult present.

Kindergarten Parking Lot

This parking lot is designated for parents of Kindergarteners and other parents that have permission to park in this area. If you are not the parent of a kindergartener or do not have permission to use this area please be respectful and wait in the pickup line.

Extra Parking Available

Extra parking is available before and after school at the Yakima Education Association office which is located on the Southwest corner of 44th and Nob Hill.
