EMMETSBURG DISTRICT MISSION

The Emmetsburg CSD believes we will create an environment of promoting growth and serving others.

Community Survey

We are inviting you to give input on the level of parent, family, and community engagement at West Elementary by completing this questionnaire. The questionnaire requires no identifying information, and your participation is voluntary. This questionnaire asks about your perceptions of your child's or children's school and staff and the extent to which the school engages you. Please choose one of the choices for each statement that best represents your feelings. If you have multiple children at the school, try to think of your general interactions for both/all of your children across both/all teachers. https://forms.gle/N5R8DDZ7gdSPY1Jy6

4 yr Old Preschool

Literacy Day held by Mrs. Kenyon was a huge success and my children enjoyed all the stations, community members, and adult helpers from the high school! The goofy bag to go home was an added bonus! We had our visit to the nature center this month. Kaitlin helped us to learn and explore the Nature Center marshes. We were able to see ducks, geese, and dragon flies as well as hear lots of frogs! The weather also cooperated and allowed us to be able to take a nature scavenger hunt to Soper Park and play with all the 4 year old preschoolers at the park for our outdoor time.

Kindergarten Readiness

Readiness students have enjoyed the Spring weather in April. We had a great visit to the Lost Island Nature Center where the Naturalist took us on a tour of the woods and we also made a visit to the marsh/wetland area. We are learning about Habitats in our classroom so we were excited to see these 2 habitats up close. We also had some play time at the campground park. We also took a walk to our lake here in Emmetsburg to check out that habitat. Then we enjoyed some time at Soper Park. We also want to thank Ms. Lori from the Emmetsburg Public Library for coming to visit us and share a story and activity with us the past few months.

First Grade

As we wrap up an incredible month in first grade, we are excited to share some of the wonderful learning experiences and accomplishments our students have enjoyed!

Last week, we were thrilled to welcome Mrs. Kaitlyn from the Lost Island Nature Center. She brought the Star Lab to our school, creating an unforgettable, real-world learning experience for our students. Inside the Star Lab, Mrs. Kaitlyn helped us dive deeper into our study of moon phases and guided us as we located and identified constellations in the night sky. This hands-on opportunity truly brought our science curriculum to life and sparked so much excitement and curiosity among our young learners.

Throughout the month, our first graders have also been working diligently to follow the E-Hawk Way and show their E-Hawk Pride. Their hard work and positive behavior are celebrated every Friday with a student-chosen reward. This week, students had the chance to visit other first-grade classrooms and explore different play tubs. This activity not only provided a fun and engaging break but also supported important social-emotional learning goals. As students mixed with peers from other rooms, they practiced communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while making new friends and sharing new experiences.

3 Year Old Preschool

3-year-old preschool had the best time at the Palo Alto County Nature Center! We were able to see and touch a variety of creatures. The preschoolers loved learning about all of the live animals. We took a nature walk to the marsh where we heard a lot of noises and tried to look for the source of the noises-frogs!
