Parenting Tip πͺ
Creating a Literacy-Rich Environment
Did you know that babies and children who are read to everyday develop language, listening and comprehension skills that will benefit them for the rest of their life? Children thrive on routine, so try incorporating a book at bedtime each night! There are many other ways to incorporate language and literacy skills into your everyday environment. Here are a few ideas:
-Listen and talk with your child about everything around them.
-Talk, read, and sing throughout the day's routines and activities, including snack time, diaper time and naptime.
-Read both fiction and non-fiction books to your child.
-Point out pictures in the books and ask questions about them.
-Keep the conversation going....get your child talking more by asking questions. If your child says, "My car is fast." You could follow up by asking where their car is going or what color their car is going.
You are your child's first and most important teacher, so fostering a love for language, books, reading and writing will benefit them for life!
