FROM THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT
Greetings Sports Fans!!
What a week we had in Guardian Athletics this past week - JV Districts for Track, PIL Tennis Districts, Softball, Men’s Volleyball, Lacrosse playoffs, Baseball, and Golf!!
First up, the JV District Track and Field Meet was cut short due to a thunderstorm so they had to cram everything into one day but got it done. The JV Men’s Team finished second at the meet while the Women’s Team finished fourth. Another great year for the team!
At the Regional Golf Tournament, Lennon Schmidt and Margot Donovan qualified for the State Tournament and at the District Tennis Meet, we qualified the Doubles Team of Kora Johnston and Isa Llados who will be competing at state this week. Kate Hunter also made it to the finals of the Singles Consolation Round. Congrats to all our Tennis players and Golfers for a great season!
The Varsity Baseball Team swept the Franklin Lightning. Before our home game, we honored the 2006 team that won the State Championship! Unfortunately, we had a loss yesterday against Grant but we still have the 2nd game of the series on Wednesday at Grant that could determine league and playoff qualifications.
Our Softball Team had a big week last week battling against Roosevelt, Grant, and Cleveland. We came up short in our efforts in all three. They had their last game of the season last night against Grant for Senior Night and came up big winning 15-0!
Women’s Lacrosse made the playoffs and faced off against Lakeridge but came up just short in the game. Men’s Lacrosse won their first playoff game against West Salem and will host Century in the 2nd Round on Wednesday at 7:00pm.
We have another big week ahead with Varsity Track and Field Districts at Lincoln on Wednesday and Friday and as mentioned above, a pivotal game for Baseball against Grant, the State Tennis Meet for our Women's Doubles Team and Men’s Lacrosse playoffs. The spring season is wrapping up but the weather is going to be great this week so come out and watch our Guardians compete!
Great to Be A Guardian!

Lower Level Updates from our Coaches
JV Track and Field
The 2026 JV Track and Field season has concluded. We had a tremendous season with the boys finishing 2nd in the PIL and the girls finishing a hard fought 4th. We had numerous elite performances and personal best times at the championship meet. We had many top ten all-time performances for 9th and 10th grade athletes. Isabel Braun won the Discus and was 2nd in both hurdle races. Raven Summer won both his hurdle races and Nolan Phips had a break out day running a terrific time in the 400 of 52.40. The future is very bright for the Guardian Track and Field program. We are already excited for next year.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Baseball
Walter Robinson is the baseball programs athlete of the week. In two wins vs Franklin Walter had five hits and scored four runs. He batted .714 for the week and also stole three bases.
Softball
Lillian Chang batted a .667 for the Guardians last week against the toughest pitchers in PIL with 4 singles, 2 stolen bases, and 5 outs as our second basemen. Including holding it down when Roosevelt discovered our first base weakside with a lefty pitcher and first basemen. She
Ava McMahon had 2 walks, 2 singles, a double (could've been a triple), and 4 stolen bases, scoring twice. She is finding her way to the top of our stolen-base leaderboard. This season, Ava has been adjusting to a move from the infield to the outfield, and she was absolutely killing it out there with 3 putouts this week.
Congratulations Lillian and Ava!
Tennis - Women
Womens tennis Athletes of the week are Isa Llados, Kora Johnston and Kate Hunter.
At the PIL district tournament last week, Isa and Kora, playing doubles together for the first time this season made an impressive run all the way to the distinct final and qualified for the Oregon State tournament along the way. En route to the final, the unseeded pair upset the number 2 seeded Lincoln team in the second round and the third seeded pair from Grant in the semi finals. In the final Isa and Kora, narrowly lost to the number 1 seeded team from Grant. Congratulations Isa and Kora and good luck at State!!
Kate Hunter had a fantastic experience at districts matching up with the number 1 seeded Carlyta Barfield from Benson in the first round. Kate held her nerve and played a few excellent points against a very strong opponent. Although she lost the match, Kate went on an impressive run in the consolation draw, reeling off 4 straight wins before dropping a bravely contested 3 set match in the final to the number 1 player from Roosevelt. Kate's progress and improvement over the 3 day tournament was tangible and we are so excited to watch her continue to grow her game in the upcoming year.
Volleyball - Men
Congrats to Vince Roska, Davis Salehi, James Levin-Greenhaw and Noah De Los Santos. Vince led the team in Kills, Davis in Digs, James in Aces and Noah in Assists for both the week and the season.

WEEKLY TID-BITS
“Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”
“Every role you play is a chance to play it well. Son. Friend. Worker. Stranger in a queue. Driver in traffic. Person making the coffee. Person receiving the coffee. None of them are beneath you. None of them are above you. All of them are happening, and the version of you in each one is the only version other people will ever see. Be excellent in the small role. The big one is just a string of small ones nobody noticed you nailing.” - Stoic Philosophy
I. When We Loosen Our Grip
Maybe it’s time to loosen your grip on every unanswered question, to stop rehearsing outcomes that haven’t happened yet.
- Maybe peace begins the moment you allow life to unfold without your constant interrogation, when you trust that not everything needs to be controlled to be understood.
- Some things arrive gently when you stop chasing them, some lessons make sense only in hindsight.
- Let life meet you where you are. Let it surprise you.
Not everything is meant to be figured out—some things are meant to be felt, lived, and trusted as they come.

II. Treat Your Life Like Poetry
- Choose your words with care, your actions with meaning, and your presence with intention.
- Let each day be a verse of purpose, filled with moments that reflect your values and spiritual desires.
- Slow down enough to notice beauty in the ordinary, to align with what feels right, and to release what no longer serves you.
Intentional living isn’t about perfection—it’s about making choices that turn your life into something worth reading, worth feeling, worth living fully.

III. At the End of the Day
At the end of the day, time becomes a mirror, reflecting the essence of existence.
- Each moment, once fleeting, begins to hold a deeper significance. The past—a tapestry of choices and actions—intertwines with the present, offering wisdom.
- Regrets and triumphs coalesce, forming the legacy we are shaping in real time. It becomes a space of realization, where the trivial falls away, revealing what truly matters: love, kindness, and connection.
And in that awareness, the soul finds peace—understanding that life’s journey, with all its trials and joys, has always been guiding us toward something greater.

IV. Question
If how I live, why I love, and the way I show up becomes my legacy—what will be the signature my soul leaves behind?
V. This Week, I Will
- Remember, it’s never too late for a new beginning in my life.
- Compete with my best self, not someone else’s highlight reel.
- Take small steps each day to keep building a life I am proud to live and lead.
- Open doors, stand for something bigger, and understand the responsibility that comes with influence.
- Breathe in gently, and breathe out with grace, honoring the fragile reality that every day is a gift.
