Riverview HighSchoolNovember Newsletter

Principal's Message

Hello Pirate Families,

As we head into the Thanksgiving season, we've been emphasizing a spirit of gratitude...from the quotes that hang in our halls to the focus of this month's Mentor Lesson, we deeply appreciate the community that we have at RCHS. Our dedicated educators, support staff & coaches provide a safe and nurturing place for our students to learn and grow from their mistakes. Our students continue to make us proud with their character, work ethic, and contribution to our school culture. Finally, we are grateful for the support from our parents and community. Nearly 20% of our student's parents attended our fall conferences, and we spoke to many more by phone or email. Our athletic events have also been well attended, both at home and away, and our athletes have enjoyed great success again this season.

It's an honor to care for your children, and we are committed to their academic and emotional well-being. We hope that you enjoy a fantastic November and this month's newsletter.

Our Government in Action: An RCHS Roundtable

Last Friday several of our seniors had the opportunity to meet with State Senator Darrin Camilleri, State Representative Jamie Churches & Michigan's Chief Growth Officer, Hilary Doe for a round table discussion on how to Grow Michigan Together. The focus of the committee is to interact with stakeholders, listen to student voice, and report ideas to Governor Whitmer on how to make Michigan a state that attracts & retains talent. Our students were phenomenal, making suggestions like increase areas for recreation, enhance community services and improve public transportation by linking the more populated areas in the east and central regions with the tourist, beach areas on the west side and in the thumb, communicate ad campaigns through social media to target younger age groups, and finally, to recognize diversity and advocate for equity for all citizens. The Growing Michigan Together Council commented to building leaders how impressed they were with our students and the wisdom and maturity that they showed in their ideals.

RCHS as an Enchanted Forest

On October 7, over 700 students and guests enjoyed the "Enchanted Forest" homecoming dance. None of this would have been possible without the dedication and work of Student Council Advisor, Mrs. Bailey, our staff & friends who volunteered to help at the dance, and of course, the RCHS Student Council. Mrs. Bailey would like to specifically recognize her Executive Board for their contributions: Emma Genig, Celsey McGrath, Vaso Paliotheodoros, Ali Albania, Jackie Scheiber and Ava Allen.

On Wednesday, October 25th, Art Smart and Spanish Club came together to observe the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos. Students learned about the "calaveras" (colorful skulls that are used to celebrate this event) and painted pumpkins with this theme in mind. Everyone had a great time decorating their pumpkins, and the final products were muy impresivos (very impressive)!

Chef Wayne Stolt Memorial Tree

Last spring, beloved culinary teacher Chef Wayne Stolt suddenly passed away and a few weeks ago, we planted a maple tree in his honor. The tree stands proudly near where our CTE students are dropped off at our main entrance, and we plan to also add an engraved marker or bench next spring so that our future students also know how much he is loved and missed.

Parent Drop-off and Pickup--Longsdorf & Quarry

For parents that drop-off on Longsdorf, please pull over to the right to safely drop off your student. With daylight decreasing in the mornings, we appreciate you slowing down and pulling over so as to avoid accidents and keep the road clear for others. To prioritize student safety with it being so dark in the morning, students can be dropped off at the end of the horseshoe drive by the doors closest to Quarry. These doors will be unlocked until 7:35 am.
