Messages from Our Admin Team
Congratulations, Talley CML Teams!
We are incredibly proud to announce that Talley Street's 3rd Grade Team placed 1st in the country for CML (Continental Math League) this year. What an outstanding achievement! Special congratulations go out to Anishka Rayshan and Ellis Anthony, who earned National Medals for achieving perfect scores in all three competitions.
We also want to celebrate our talented 5th graders, Isaac Brandt, Louis Hepburn, and Alexander Fischer, who also received National Medals for their perfect scores. A remarkable shoutout to Isaac Brandt, who has earned this prestigious recognition every single year since 3rd grade, with perfect scores on every CML competition throughout his journey. We are so proud of these incredible students and their hard work and dedication. Way to go!

What's Happening at Talley Street?
End of Year Library Policies
This week, Mrs. Long visited every class to review end-of-year library book procedures.
🚨 All library books are due back by Monday, May 11! 🚨
May 11 is also the deadline for 5th graders to pay for lost books. Mrs. Long will email all parents about overdue/lost books tonight, and papers will go home next week. After May 11, 5th graders who haven't paid for lost books will be referred to Ms. Johnson, Talley's bookkeeper. Please contact Mrs. Long (along@csdecatur.net) with any questions.
Talley's Annual True Book Fair (May 11-12)
Our library's True Book Fair is coming up! On May 11-12, all Talley students will be able to select two high-quality, high-interest books to keep for FREE! This is one of our favorite events of the year. If you would like to volunteer to help run the event, please sign up using the link below!

We need coaches to support the incredible Girls on the Run program at Talley! We are currently recruiting coaches for the fall 2026 season. See the flyer for more information!
Green Team News
Earth Day Shout Out
The Green Team salutes Ms. Sanders' third-grade class for doing an amazing job completing our Earth Day BINGO! They turned in more boards...including several blackouts!...than any other class. Way to go!
Earn Double House Points
Green Team is looking to max out our free TerraCycle collection programs before the end of the school year. Students who bring in the specific items from our TerraCycle list between May 1 and May 8 will earn double house points. This applies only to these items and DOES NOT include bottle caps.

Recycling Updates
Green Team members had a blast at the annual LiveThrive Kids Day at CHaRM DeKalb this past Saturday. They earned prizes for their recycling knowledge, participated in sustainability-focused educational activities and crafts, and cheered on students from Beacon Hill Middle School who participated in the recycled fashion runway show. Talley did not win the Plastic Bottle Collection Contest, but we did recycle a respectable 34 pounds of plastic bottles. (The winner...T.H. Slater Elementary in Atlanta...collected an amazing 169 pounds! So, we'll have to up our game for next year.) Thank you to all who supported our effort!
Also, our final plastic film collection for house points will be Thursday, May 7. (Please note the change from Wednesday to Thursday.) The three houses that bring in the most will earn DOUBLE house points.
End-of-Year Recycling
The Green Team once again will be overseeing the collection of unwanted school supplies for recycling or reuse. Boxes are being placed in each grade's hallway for the following items:
- Backpacks and lunch boxes/bags
- Headphones
- Binders
- Pencil pouches
- Used notebooks (spiral or marble cover)
- Paper and plastic folders
- Pencils (including mechanical), pens, markers, crayons, highlighters
- Glue sticks and empty glue bottles
Eco-Spotlight: Gorillas on the Line
Keep your old electronics out of landfills and help save gorilla habitats at the same time! Rare earth minerals, used in the production of cell phones and other small electronics, are found in only a few places in the world, and mining for these minerals has led to habitat loss for already endangered species. By recycling e-waste, those important minerals can be extracted and reused to reduce dependence on mining. Through August 29, Zoo Atlanta is partnering with ecocell to recycle cell phones, smart phones, tablets, airpods/earbuds, smart watches and more to raise funds to support AZA SAFE Gorilla programs. All items should be set to factory reset and may be dropped off at the zoo.

Kids Ages 5-13 Invited to Register for Decatur WatchFest 26 3v3 Soccer Tournament
Decatur Soccer invites youth ages 5-13 (rising K-8th grade) to register for its 3v3 Soccer Tournament, powered by Decatur WatchFest 26, a fun, flexible, and community-focused event led by DHS soccer players and coaches. Join us Saturday, June 20, 8:30-noon at the Decatur High School Stadium with plenty of parking and just a short walk from the Decatur MARTA Station and Decatur WatchFest.
Kids can form a team of up to five players and sign up at the link below for just $75 per team (payable separately via GoFan). With no uniforms required (pennies provided) and small-sided 3v3 match play run by our DHS players, this format keeps things simple while maximizing touches, engagement, and fun for every player.
The tournament is open to girls, boys, and co-ed teams (co-ed teams will play in the boys bracket), with divisions based on rising school year: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 6-8. This is a great way to celebrate Decatur WatchFest and FIFA World Cup 26™ while supporting the Decatur Soccer program, and giving your child a fun soccer experience without a big time commitment. Just gather a group, register here, and show up ready to play!
