School Starts for Kinder - 5th Grade Students on August 18th!

We're excited to welcome our Kindergarten through 5th grade students back on Tuesday, August 18. Doors open at 8:45 AM, with breakfast available at that time. School begins promptly at 9:15 AM.

To celebrate the new school year, we'll continue our "Red Carpet Welcome" tradition. Administrators, faculty, and staff will be outside the front entrance cheering on students as they arrive. Families are welcome to stay and capture photos of this special moment!

We look forward to seeing you and your child on the first day!

Class Placement Available August 5

On Wednesday, August 5, you can view your child’s class placement in Infinite Campus. Simply sign in to your parent portal to see the teacher assignment.

Class placement is a thoughtful and important process that we take very seriously. At the end of last school year, our teachers and I collaborated to carefully assign students to classes for the upcoming year. We worked to ensure each class is balanced by academic needs, behavioral needs, gender, and other important factors.

We are confident your child is prepared for a positive and successful year ahead!

Each year our school has a variety of activities and field trips. We are asking for a donation of $35 per student to help cover these extra costs.

Donations can be made at SchoolCash Online or in person at your school. SchoolCash Online will be used for both elementary and secondary students, making it easier for parents to handle fee and donation payments.

You will need to create an account in SchoolCash Online using your child's student number. This number can be found by clicking on your student's name in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

Thank you for supporting your child and our school!

To ensure a safe and secure environment for all, only the main front entrance will remain unlocked during the school day. Everyone entering the school during school hours must check in at the front office, including those assisting students to their classrooms in the morning. All visitors who are not school employees are required to check in at the office.

We encourage families to help students build independence by allowing them to walk to their classrooms on their own whenever possible. After 9:15 a.m., parents will not be permitted to walk students to class. For everyone’s safety, all other exterior doors will remain locked throughout the school day.

Parents who walk or drive their children to school are encouraged to arrange a designated meeting spot with their students ahead of time.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school community safe!

Updates to Policy JDE- Student Electronic Devices

Dear Nebo School District Community,

We will continue to follow the adoption of the district-wide cell phone policy aimed at enhancing the learning environment for all students and aligned with the new Utah law. Specifically, this policy is designed to address the needs of all students to support mental health, improve focus and learning, and promote social skills. To view the policy in its entirety, use this link: https://kb.nebo.edu/policy/jde.

The new cell phone policy introduces tailored guidelines for Nebo District students. Please note that students, in all schools, are allowed to use an electronic device in the following situations:

to respond to an imminent threat to the health or safety of an individual;
to respond to a school-wide emergency;
to use the SafeUT Crisis Line;
for limited use if specifically authorized by a student’s IEP or Section 504 accommodation plan; or
to address a medical necessity.

Elementary & Middle/Junior High Schools

Cell phones and smartwatches are not to be used in the school building during school hours. Cell phones must be stowed away in a backpack, purse, or bag, secured by the student, and set to a mode where notifications cannot be received. While smartwatches may be worn, they must also be set so that notifications cannot be sent nor received.
If a student needs to communicate with a parent/guardian, the student may use their cell phone in either the front office or counseling office with permission. This should occur on a limited basis and is intended for students experiencing a crisis during the day for which they need assistance from their parent/guardian.

Cell phones may not be taken with students when using a hall pass unless they are going to the office to contact their parent/guardian. Smartwatches may not be used to send or receive notifications or make phone calls when using a hall pass.

We are committed to creating a positive and supportive learning atmosphere for all students. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement this new policy. Together, we can ensure that our schools remain havens of learning and growth.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Nebo School District

Regular attendance means students are in school, on time, every day unless absence is absolutely necessary. Consistent attendance directly impacts academic achievement and educational success. In elementary school, parents play the primary role in ensuring their child attends school daily and on time. Parents and school staff share responsibility in working together to resolve any attendance concerns.

Reporting Absences

Parents must call to excuse absences within two days of the absence. Please call the school office directly at (801) 489-2830 — do not leave messages with your child's teacher.

Parent Drop-Off and Pick-Up Lane

Important Note: By law, bus zones cannot be used for drop-off or pick-up, even when no buses are present.

To keep traffic moving smoothly and ensure student safety, Brookside has two designated traffic lanes:

Parking Lane (closest to 400 S.)
For families who need to park and exit their vehicle to walk their child into the school or to the sidewalk.

Drop-Off/Pick-Up Lane (closest to the building)
For quick drop-off and pick-up only. Drivers must remain in their vehicles, as traffic is expected to keep moving continuously.

For Everyone's Safety

Please do not park or exit your vehicle in the drop-off/pick-up lane
Proceed slowly and stay alert
Watch carefully for children entering and exiting vehicles

Thank you for helping us create a safe and efficient arrival and dismissal experience for all of our Brookside Tigers!

Many of our students walk, ride bicycles, or scooters to school each day. Due to the high volume of vehicles and pedestrians during arrival and dismissal, we ask all students who ride bikes or scooters to walk them while on school property. This helps keep everyone safe during these busy times.

At school, we teach and regularly remind students to:

Use the sidewalks at all times
Follow the directions of adult supervisors and crossing guards
Use the designated crosswalks in front of the school when crossing 400 South

We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these safety expectations at home. By working together, we can help ensure every student travels safely to and from school each day.

Parent-teacher conferences are an important opportunity for us to work together in supporting your child's success. These meetings give us dedicated time to celebrate your child's growth, discuss academic progress and social-emotional development, answer questions, and work together to set goals for continued success.

Please plan to meet with your child's teacher on the following conference dates this school year:

October 8 – Fall Progress Conference
December 3 – Midyear Progress Conference
March 11 – Spring Growth Conference

As we begin a new school year, we are pleased to announce that we have four openings for parents or guardians to serve on our school’s School Community Council for the 2026-2027 school year.

The School Community Council is a great way to be involved in the school community at Brookside Elementary. The School Community Council serves as an advisory council to the school administration. Parent candidates cannot be Brookside employees and must have a student attending Brookside Elementary during the 2026-2027 school year.

If you are interested in serving on the council, you may self-nominate by completing the nomination form below and returning it to the school by September 11, 2026. Nominations received after that date will not be considered. If you are nominating another individual, please contact them to ensure their interest and willingness to be involved.

If needed, we will hold elections for four parent representatives to the council September 14-18, 2026. We will only need an election if there are more individuals interested in being on our School Community Council than we have open spots available. Any parent of a Brookside student may vote by coming to the school’s main office during school hours on those days or by casting their vote on the Google form that will be sent out (if needed).

The School Community Council will provide input in the following areas:

1. Participate in the development of a School Land Trust plan and budget
2. Advise the school administration on local school issues
3. Develop a child access routing plan
4. Make recommendations regarding school safety issues and safe technology usage and
digital citizenship
5. Serve as the Building Needs Committee
6. Provide an opportunity for issues of concern in the community to be presented to the
school administration
7. Review state testing data as needed
8. Develop and incorporate safety principles at the school and hold at least an annual
discussion with the school’s principal and district administration regarding safety principles
at the school and district level.
9. Review and vote on Reading Achievement Plan
10. Make recommendations regarding issues at the school such as school programs,
ideas/suggestions regarding students, etc.

The council typically meets once a month for one hour. This year the meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month (October-April) from 11:30-12:30pm.

Nominations for Parent Representatives to Brookside’s School Community Council

I would like to be included on the ballot for the Brookside Elementary School Community Council for the 2026-2027 school year. I understand that this is a two-year term and I may be re-elected for additional terms. I understand that I must have a student attending Brookside Elementary during the 2026-2027 school year. If elected, I understand that I will be expected to attend monthly meetings and become knowledgeable about the school and its programs.
