Reminder for lunch visitors

We love having parents in the building to each lunch with your child, however, we need to remind parents that when visiting the building, we do not allow pictures to be taken in the cafeteria. This is because we have a number of students in our building who do not have permission to be photographed or for their picture to appear anywhere online. Although you may be taking a picture of your child and you may know the parents of their friends who are seated at the table with you, we cannot guarantee that other students won't show up in the background of those pictures. In order to ensure that all our students are safe, we need you to understand why our cafeteria staff have been making this request.
What does it mean to be a Title 1 school? A Title 1 school receives additional funding from the federal government to support learning. These funds are determined by the percentage of free or reduced students who attend the school.

How are schools allowed to use their Title 1 money?

Title 1 funds can only be used for specific things as mandated by law. Schools are allowed to supplement their learning programs, but they cannot purchase new curriculum. LJES chooses to spend the majority of our Title 1 funds on staffing to provide students greater access to adults in order to receive the individualized help they need. Through Title 1, we are able to have a certified reading interventionist who works with students who are the furthest below grade level in reading. We also staff 2 assistant positions who work with students in small groups throughout the day. This year, the final part of our funding has been earmarked to purchase books for classrooms use as well as books to give to students.

Mark your calendar for our Title 1 Family Night on Thursday, September 28th from 5:30-7pm. The Family Resource Center is providing food for the evening and our classroom teachers will work with parents to explore iReady reports for your child to determine next steps to improve in the area of reading. We will also have stations set up to explore activities you and your child can do at home to strengthen their reading skills.
The LJ Public Library will be sending home Take 5 forms next week. This is part of an initiative to get as many folks signed up for library cards and to explore all the resources the public library has to offer. If you are interested, complete the form and return it to school If you have additional questions, the LJ Public Library will be present at our Title 1 Family Night on Thursday to speak with parents.
Staff love to hear positive feedback as much as our students enjoy getting feedback. Want to celebrate a teacher or staff member for going above and beyond or for being helpful? Click the link below to send a shout out to Mr. Mullins that he can share with that staff member to celebrate them!

Best in Class Award

Our school is participating in a creative fundraiser with Art to Remember that allows you to purchase keepsake products customized with your child’s art. Right now, students are busy creating colorful, fun artwork, and soon you will receive a personalized order form. Be on the lookout for more information!
