Principal's Message
STEM Family,
Good evening STEM family! I hope you had a restful weekend. Reminder! Students do NOT have school tomorrow, Monday 4/28. Another short week! The days are going very quickly and we don't have much time left.
Our state testing is mostly over, just a few students that need to do some make-up tests this week. Students in grades K-2 will now start taking their end of year iReady tests. These are the tests that they take at the beginning, middle and end of year in math and reading so we can monitor their progress throughout the year. This is how we make sure students are on track, and if they aren't, we are able to provide them with intervention/help right away. This is not a high-stakes test, but we still want students to do the best so we know how much they've learned this year. Students in grades 3-6 will also take iReady assessments, but we will be waiting a little since they just finished state assessments.
There is important information about upcoming events included below! Please call and let us know if you have any questions. Reminder - Teacher appreciation week is coming up, May 5 - 9!
Sincerely,
Cara Will, principal
Concerning Behaviors on the Rise - Your help needed
Unfortunately, we have seen a significant increase in students of all ages making threatening statements to their classmates. Whether it is because of what they see or hear on TV, YouTube, Video Games, or hear from their friends, they are repeating it at school. Please remind your students, ANY threat of violence, whether that is to beat someone up, cause physical harm, or death, is taken very seriously and will have BIG consequences. A statement such as "I'm going to kill you" said out of anger may be common for siblings to say to each other at home, but at school, it is unacceptable and will be dealt with as a threat. ANY time a student makes or writes a statement that can be interpreted as a threat, or makes or says anything about a weapon, Mansfield City Schools takes it very seriously. It is investigated very carefully and recommendations for the safety of staff and students are made, along with discipline measures.
This week, we will be having conversations in every classroom about the seriousness of making threatening statements. We will also talk to students about the importance of reporting anything they may see or hear to keep everyone safe. We are asking for your help in making sure your students understand that making threats is not something to joke about. Make sure they know that if they are mad, frustrated or scared, making threats is not an option - they need to find an adult. And finally, make sure that they understand that there will be major consequences for making any kind of threat of harm.
Thank you for your help in this matter!
K-2nd Grade Choir Concert Tuesday 4/29
Parents & Families,
Our Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students have been working extremely hard on their spring choir concert for the last couple of months and are excited to share it with you on Tuesday Night!
Students need to arrive at the high school at 5:30pm dressed in their PJs. (Remember, it will get hot on stage, so lighter ones will be better. Also, kids will be UP on stage, so if nightgowns are worn, they will need to wear shorts underneath!) The concert will begin at 6pm.
Following the concert, parents will need to pick their students up at the end of the two hallways leading out of the sides of the auditorium. Students will not be released freely to leave off of the stage or into the cafeteria with their parents for safety reasons. Please be patient as we match parents and students after the concert.

Spring/Summer Dress Code Reminders
As the weather has warmed up, this is a reminder about dress code for warm weather clothes:
Shirts:
- Must cover the shoulders. No tank tops, spaghetti straps, off the shoulder, or sleeveless tops.
- Must reach the top of the pants/shorts/skirt.
- Must come to mid-thigh/end of fingertips and cannot be excessively tight.
Shoes:
- Shoes must have a strap around the heel. No slides. Crocs must have a workable strap that can be worn on the heel.
*If clothes do not meet these requirements, students will be given the opportunity to change using the clothes we have in our clothing closet. These clothes are clean and in good condition. We do have limited shoes. If the student refuses to change, or we do not have something that will fit, we will call home for other clothes to be brought to school. Student will wait for change of clothes in ISS.
