The Rise Up Family Connection
Some thoughts for the starting school year
August 21, 2026
Dear Sunset Park Families,
We are off to a wonderful start, and I am so proud of the energy, excitement, and learning taking place throughout The Park! Each new week brings another opportunity for our students to grow, build relationships, and Rise Up to new challenges.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for trusting us with your children each day. As we settle into our routines, please continue encouraging your child to come to school ready to learn, work hard, and show what it means to be a Sunset Park Trojan.
Together, we are building on our Same Solid Foundation while embracing all of the New Beginnings this school year has to offer. I’m excited about what’s ahead!
Rise Up, Trojans!
Empowering Learners,
Mrs. Blackwell
Principal

ALL Transportation changes must be made via a handwritten note.
South Carolina is the first state to outlaw "grade floors" in K-12 public schools. The law bans districts from setting mandatory minimum scores, requiring instead that grades strictly reflect actual student performance.
If Students Don't Do the Work, They Get a Zero
• If a student fails an assignment or leaves it incomplete, teachers are now required to issue an earned zero.
• Students cannot access credit recovery programs or receive course credit without fully completing all
required coursework.
• Benchmark and formative assessments may be used to monitor progress but cannot be included in final grade calculations.
