Student-Parent Handbook 2026-2027
This document will answer all your questions.
We have updated our Student Parent Handbook for the 2026-27 School Year. A copy is being sent home with each student and we recommend that you keep it in a safe place throughout the year.
School Hours & Attendance
- School hours are 8:15 - 3:35
- The doors open at 7:50 am and we serve free breakfast until 8:15 am.
- If you are dropping off your child in the morning, please go through the car rider line and do not park. Unfortunately, we have limited parking space and our staff needs every single spot.
- If you arrive after 8:15 am, the student is considered tardy. Please walk your child into the building and sign your child in.
- Breakfast is not provided after 8:15 am.
- Attendance is taken at 9:55 am, if you arrive after 9:55 am your child is considered absent unless the child is coming from the doctor and you bring a doctor's note.
Transportation Changes
Please remember that a written note is required for all transportation changes and early releases. If an unexpected emergency occurs and you are unable to send a note with your child, please call the front office as soon as possible. Calling ahead gives us time to locate an available staff member to assist with your child’s transportation change. Your call helps us make the process faster and smoother for everyone. E-mails are not accepted for any transportation changes.

Communication
Thursday Folder
Every Thursday, a folder will be sent home with your child that will include notes from the school and a student conduct card. This card will act as one of the communication tools between you and your child's teacher. Please sign and return it each Friday.
Newsletter
Every Thursday, a campus newsletter is emailed to inform parents about special events and shout outs about our school and students. Please check your spam folder.
Phone Calls/Emails
Please allow staff members 24 hours to return any phone calls or e-mails. We want to focus our attention on the students while they are here each day. In addition, the staff member you are trying to contact could be out of the building and therefore has not had an opportunity to respond to your email or phone call. We encourage you to contact your child’s teacher(s) first with any concerns you may have before contacting an administrator.
Car Riders
Walkers
Parents who walk up for dismissal will need to wait for all car riders to be dismissed, and then the campus will release walkers. This is for the safety of all students and parents.
Vacation & Appt. Planning
Rolling Backpacks Not Allowed
Rolling backpacks will not be allowed for the 26-27 school year due to safety concerns. If students come to school with a rolling backpack, they will be asked to leave it at home and the student will not be allowed to bring it back to school. Thank you for helping everyone stay safe at Hairgrove!
Birthday & Celebration Guidelines
Due to health regulations, cakes, cupcakes, favors, and other food or treats are not permitted for birthdays or other special occasions. Parents are also not permitted to bring items for their child’s class. By law, children are not allowed to eat food provided by other parents. We also do not allow the delivery of gifts such as cakes, flowers, balloons, etc.
Birthday invitations may only be distributed at school if all students or all boys/girls in the class are invited. This helps ensure that no student feels excluded. Thank you for helping us make celebrations at school positive and inclusive for everyone!
Medications
Students may not carry any medication at any time.
If your student requires medication this school year, please stop by to drop it off.
Medication requirement and rules are as follows:
- Medication must have students full name, birthday, valid expiration date and dosing orders (by doctor) on prescription bottles/vials/boxes.
- If the medication is over the counter, it must be unopened and have the students age in the dosing instructions.
- If you can, please provide doctor’s orders with the action plans or any medication documentation.
- Medication WILL NOT be accepted if they do not follow requirements.
The clinic is very busy during the day, bringing medication before the start of school will be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or need to talk about medication, or if you need a copy of an action plan sheet for the doctor, please call or email.
