Message from the Principal

JAJHS Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family warm and cozy as even colder temperatures arrive this weekend!

Around JAJHS, our students have been busy in classrooms, on the mats, in the gym, and on the stage! We’re excited to move into the winter season of athletics as well as see our students preparing for our winter drama. In the classrooms, students continue to participate in activities, projects, and engaging lessons. I’m constantly amazed by the hard work of our teachers and students.

As we move into Thanksgiving week, I want to take this opportunity to share how grateful I am for the chance to serve with your students at JAJHS. Many times throughout the week, Mr. Moyer and I chat with each other about just how great our kids are. Thanks to you for sending us great kids, supporting our teachers and school, and for entrusting our team with your child. It is not a charge we take lightly and truly appreciate the chance to serve in our community.

As a reminder, there is no school for students on Wednesday, November 23 through Friday, November 25th for Thanksgiving Break. I hope you and your family have a wonderful break and a special time creating memories together.

Sincerely,

Mr. Malany
Principal

PTO Teacher Wish List

Our amazing PTO is helping fulfill teachers’ wish lists by organizing some of their special items into an Amazon list. If you’d like to help contribute, please visit the Amazon list. The list will be open until this Monday, November 21st. Thank you for your support!

Service Learning Day

JAJHS is excited to hold our annual fall Service Learning Day on Tuesday, November 22nd. During this day, our students will be participating in activities that will focus on serving others, empathy, and community.

We are excited to welcome our guest speaker, Dr. Scott Grant from Triple Threat Leadership, who will be speaking to our students about purpose, plan, and value. He will be discussing the importance of having a positive presence in the social media community and the value of building positive relationships with others in our school community. Our students will also be watching the movie Wonder and discussing the importance of empathy for others.

We hope that this day serves as a valuable experience for our kids as they learn to grow and be productive members of our society. We encourage you to speak with your student about their day and any takeaways they have.

DONATIONS FOR SERVICE LEARNING DAY

During Service Learning Day on Tuesday, November 22nd, our students will be participating in a station where they will be creating gifts and cards for some area nurses and sorting books for Little Libraries around Plain City. For this project, we’d appreciate your help with these following donations.

Band/Choir Concerts

The Junior High Band concert is Tuesday, December 6th at 7:00 P.M. The combined Junior High Choir and High School Choir concerts will be Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 P.M. This combined choral concert will also be our Sugar Plum Lane event. There will be lots of festive treats to purchase at this event. Helping serve at this event is a fun way to meet lots of other choral parents. If you'd like to help at the event, let Wendy Brown know. Her email is wendy_brown522@yahoo.com.

Some of our Music Booster executive board members will be there to meet you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask after the concert. Our next Music Booster meeting will be Monday, November 28th at 7:00P.M. in the high school choir room. We'd love to see you there and hear your ideas.

Our website has lots of information about band, choir and the musical. Directors and executive committee contact info is on there too.

DRAMA CLUB PERFORMANCE

The Drama Club play performance of Robin Hood is Friday, December 9th at 7:00 P.M. and Saturday, December 10th at 7:00 P.M. Admission is free and concessions are available, so join us as Robin Hood & his band of merry men foil the plans of Prince John and restore peace to Nottingham.

SOS Signs of Suicide (8th graders)

Our 8th grade students will once again be participating in the SOS Signs of Suicide program. 8th grade families: please review the information letter (Spanish version) that was sent home.

Ohio Music Educators Honor Band Event

Congratulations to our band students who were selected to perform in the Ohio Music Educators Honor Band Event held on Saturday, November 12th, at Thomas Worthington High School. They spent the day rehearsing new music with students from other Columbus area schools and put on a concert on that same day. This is a huge honor and we were represented well.

Basketball Concessions Sign Ups

Our PTO plays a valuable role in supporting JAJHS students and teachers. One way to get involved is to assist with working concession stands during home athletic events.

Please see the links below to sign -up. The PTO will provide all of the training you need. Parents are able to get into the sporting event for free before/after working their shift. Often 7th grade parents volunteer for 8th grade games and 8th grade parents volunteer for 7th grade games.

Even if your child is not participating in the sport, parents are encouraged to volunteer as a way of connecting with other JAJHS parents!

Important School Meal Reminders

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It has come to the attention of the Food Service Department that many families are not aware of their eligibility status regarding their Free and Reduced Price Meal Application. This is most likely due to emails going to the SPAM folder. The software we use as our Point of Sale and notification system is Solana. Emails regarding your child's account balance and your family eligibility will come from Solanaadmin@horizonsolana.com Please add this email to your contacts to receive any emails in the future.

Grace for students that were approved for free or reduced meals last year will end on September 27th. Applications must be filled our prior to this date to avoid incurring meal charges.

For fees to be waived, an approved free application must be on file with a signed waiver form. This is Section 5 in Final Forms. If you received an email at the beginning of the year instructing you to not fill out an application because your child has been determined to be free by Rebecca Rings, you still must complete a waiver form or click yes on the Final Forms application, yes on Section 5 and sign the form. Forms can be found on our website:

Reminders from JAJHS Office

Medications at School

Sometimes parents ask that school personnel administer medication to their child during the school day. When this is necessary, we require written permission and instructions from the parent and in some instances from the doctor.

The required form “Distribution/Student Use of Medicines/Medications” must be completed and turned in to the junior high office with the medication to be administered.

School Fees

The school fees for 7th and 8th grade can be paid online using MyPaymentsPlus or you can bring cash or check to the school office. The fees are $30 per student for the 2022-2023 school year.
