Hands-On Learning Thrives at Paine Elementary
Great things are happening at Paine as teachers continue to create dynamic, student-centered learning opportunities that actively engage students in the learning process. In Mrs. Bryant’s second grade classroom, students recently participated in an interactive math lesson focused on measurement. Using rulers and tape measures, they developed accuracy and precision while gaining a deeper understanding of why these skills matter. Students then applied their knowledge by measuring and marking fabric squares for a collaborative sewing project.
Intentional, hands-on experiences like this foster curiosity, promote critical thinking, and help students make meaningful connections between academic standards and real-world application. The excitement for math was evident as students worked together, demonstrating the strong culture of engagement and high-quality instruction taking place throughout Paine.
Magnolia Wears Red for Jeremiah on Heart Day
Meet our VERY own Heart Hero here at Magnolia Elementary, Jeremiah, 5th grade ❤ Jeremiah needed open heart surgery as soon as he was born. At 6 days old, Jeremiah had an 8-hour open heart surgery. Today he is doing incredibly well. To look at him you would never know his heart is different. He loves playing with his toys and jumping on his trampoline. He enjoys vacations with his family and celebrating his favorite holiday, Christmas! His favorite color is red.

Cahaba's Counting Our Way to 101 & 102 Days Smarter!
First and second graders recently marked big milestones in their school year with fun, hands-on celebrations of learning! First grade celebrated 101 Days of School with a dalmatian-sized dose of reading, writing, and math. After reading 101 Dalmatians, students wrote imaginative stories about what they would do if they had 101 dalmatians of their own. They rolled their way through a “Roll to 101” game, uncovered a mystery picture on a 101 chart, raced to add numbers to reach 101, and even grouped snacks by tens and counted all the way to 101.
Second grade was just one step ahead, celebrating 102 Days of School with creative and engaging activities. Students wrote about what life might be like when they are 102 years old, sparking both humor and thoughtful reflection. They also explored math through zoo animal measurement activities and completed a fun “102 Things” project that challenged their counting and problem-solving skills.
These celebrations were a wonderful way to honor how far our students have come, proving that learning (and counting!) is more fun when it’s shared and celebrated together.
