Yom Kippur - September 20-21, 2026
Yom Kippur means “Day of Atonement” and refers to the annual Jewish observance of fasting, prayer and repentance. Part of the High Holidays, which also includes Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur is considered the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. Yom Kippur is the moment in Jewish time when Jewish people dedicate their mind, body, and soul to reconciliation with God, fellow human beings, and themselves.

From the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has revised Ohio's Learning Standards for English Language Arts: 2026 Ohio's Learning Standards for English Language Arts K-12
The 2026 Ohio's Learning Standards for English Language Arts K-12 document includes the revised K-8 standards, as well as the 2017 grades 9-12 standards, which have not changed. The K-8 standards revisions focused on alignment to the science of reading and clarity of language. Additionally, Reading Foundations (decoding) expanded through grade 8 and Writing Foundations (spelling and handwriting) was added to grades K-8, making Ohio the 4th state in the nation to include advanced phonics and morphology in adolescent literacy standards. Revisions were made following stakeholder meetings with educators across the state, as well as feedback from public comment periods.

Writing - Wonders & MyPerspectives
Both Wonders and MyPerspectives provide several opportunities for writing experiences throughout the unit. Students have the opportunity to write on a daily basis. This would be a great time to examine the writing routines outlined in our HQIM. When we think about the need to gather evidence from text, organize the evidence in order to convey thoughts in an understandable way, choose words and phrases that are appropriate to the task, audience, and purpose, there is so much critical thinking that is occurring. We are able to model and guide students through this process using our HQIM prompts and scaffolds. The Aspects of Writing in Wonders and MyPerspectives are shown below. Please see the Scope and Sequence charts in the Teacher’s Manual in order to plan your writing in each unit.
